It's not often that the real world offers the sort of optimal conditions under which the fundamental principles of science and physics can be viewed with the naked eye.
During the first inning of Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman took an RBI double from Howie Kendrick and turned it into a live demonstration of Newton's First Law of Motion:
Newton's First Law of Motion states that, unless acted upon by a force, an object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion. With no force present to stop Zimmerman, he displayed inertia all the way to the visitor's clubhouse.
Will it be a locker, a training room table or a laundry cart that serves as a force to counter Zimmerman's inertia? The world may never know.
