A day off from the playing field is not necessarily a day off in the dugout. Off-field awareness is often just as important as on-field awareness.
That's a lesson that Braves rookie Johan Camargo may well have learned during the fifth inning of Thursday's 6-5 win over the Marlins when a jokester teammate placed a wad of gum on his shoulder ... and Camargo didn't even notice.
Provided Camargo eventually discovered the mountain of gum adorning his shoulder, he has learned that constant vigilance is the name of the game. He certainly won't let such a structure appear on his shoulder without his notice again.
And, who knows, perhaps this recently learned lesson will inspire him to train and test his teammates' off-field awareness.
