Married to Karrie...The couple has a daughter, Avalynne, and a son, Preston. Is a graduate Novi (MI) High School. Attended the University of Toledo and finished his 3-year career as a catcher with school career records for AVG (.414), hits (238), doubles (42), RBI (147), and total bases (370)...Hit .448 in his junior season, the nation's 2nd-highest average. Earned First-Team All-America honors from Baseball America in 2003.

2013

In his first and only season with the Red Sox organization, Mitch spent the entire campaign at Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .310 (35-for-113) with 32 runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs and 22 RBI in 31 games during an injury-shortened campaign ... Landed on Pawtucket's seven-day D.L., four times; April 4-14 (left wrist sprain), April 23-May 29 (left wrist sprain), June 30-August 1 (left oblique strain) and August 3-September 19 (back inflammation) ... Hit safely in 23 of his 31 games, including a .316 clip (24-for-76) against left-handed pitchers ... Posted a .431 on-base percentage, thanks in large part to drawing 24 walks while fanning just 26 times ... Batted .339 (21-for-62) with three home runs and 16 RBI at home compared to a .275 mark (14-for-51) with six RBI on the road ... Was 12-for-33 (.364) with five doubles and 20 RBI with runners in scoring position ... Homered in back-to-back games, May 31 and June 2 vs. Syracuse … went 5-for-14 with two home runs and six RBI during the series ... Enjoyed a season-best seven-game hitting streak, June 14-22, hitting .385 (10-for-26) with five RBI.

Pitched a scoreless 9th inning and allowed 1 hit, 4/15 vs. CLE...Marked the 11th time in club history a Royals position player pitched and only the 3rd time a Royal did so multiple times joining Jerry Terrell (1979-80) and Joe Simpson (1983 twice). Started a total of 15 games, 13 in center field, and 2 in right field. Designated for assignment on 7/4 and was outrighted to Omaha on 7/14. Batted .356 (32-for-90) with 16 RBI in 26 games in August for Omaha. 2011 Mitch spent the entire season as the Royals fourth outfielder, appearing in just 45 games, his fewest since the 2008 season. ... Pitched the eighth inning on July 26 at Boston, the eighth different position player (10th instance) in franchise history to take the mound and first since Tony Pena, Jr., in 2008 ... Hit 47 doubles between High-A High Desert and Double-A Wichita, the second-most among all minor leaguers on the year ... Was a California mid and post-season All-Star with High Desert ... Began the season with High Desert and hit safely in 15 of his first 18 games (.366/26-for-71) ... Was transferred to Wichita in early June and finished the season there … hit .255 (82-for-322) with 21 doubles, five triples, seven home runs and 49 RBI in 80 games ... Between both levels, batted .315 (39-for-124) with runners in scoring position.

Combined to hit .287 (141-for-491) with 45 extra-base hits and 53 RBI in 133 games between Single-A Burlington and High-A Wilmington ... Began season with Burlington where he was named a Midwest League
