Freddy Antonio Guzman...enters the 2006 season as the Padres' No. 10 prospect according to Baseball America...signed by scout Bill Clark (Padres). 2006 He was acquired from the San Diego Padres on May 11. He was with the Rangers on June 20-July 3, July 13-28 and Aug. 16-19. He made two starts for the Rangers on July 16-17, going 1-for-6. Between Triple-A Portland and Oklahoma, he batted .279 with a .366 on-base percentage and 42 stolen bases. In 376 at-bats, he had 16 doubles, four triples and three home runs. He hit .282 with 31 stolen bases in 69 games at Oklahoma. 2003 Played at three levels in the Padres' organization, batting a combined .280 (131-for-468) with three home runs, 33 RBI, 95 runs scored and 90 stolen bases...batted .307 with 27 stolen bases in 35 home games with the Storm...swiped a season-high four bases June 10 at Bakersfi eld...promoted to Double-A Mobile where he batted .271 with 38 stolen bases...had 10 multi-steal games, swiping seven bases over his last three games with the BayBears...had back-to-back 4-for-5 games August 3 vs. West Tennessee and August 4 at Huntsville... earned a promotion to Triple-A Portland on August 26...in debut with the Beavers, went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two stolen bases, August 27 vs. Tacoma...following the season, was named the Padres' No. 3 prospect according to Baseball America heading into the 2004...was added to the Padres' 40-man roster on November 19....appeared in 118 games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Portland, stealing a combined 90 bases...his stolen base total represented the most by a minor leaguer in 2003...while at Lake Elsinore, stole 49 bases, good for fourth in the California League, despite playing in only 70 games with the Storm...finished third among Southern League leaders in steals in only 46 games for Mobile, including 10 multi-steal games, swiping seven bases over his last three games with the BayBears...stole 188 bases in 268 games over his first four professional seasons. 2002 Led the Padres' organization with 69 stolen bases in a season split between San Diego's Single-A Lake Elsinore, Fort Wayne and Eugene affi liates...combined to bat .262 (92-for-351) with 32 RBI in 89 games...was third in the Midwest League with 39 steals, despite appearing in just 47 games...stole 11 bases in a six-game span May 31-June 7. 2001 Was hitting .348 at Rookie-level Idaho Falls before suffering a fractured left tibia June 30 vs. Billings...was limited to just 12 games thereafter, but hit safely in 11 of those affairs. 2005 Was placed on the disabled list on March 28 after injuring his right elbow in a Spring Training contest on March 4...missed the entire season with a strained elbow that required two surgical procedures, including operative arthroscopy, intra-articular debridement and "Tommy John" surgery...the surgery was performed by Dr. Jan Fronek on April 28 at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA. 2004 In his fifth professional season, earned his first trip to the Majors, batting .211 (16-for-76) with three doubles, five RBI and five stolen bases in 20 games for the Padres... began the season with Double-A Mobile, appearing in 35 games before being promoted to Triple-A Portland on May 28... between both minor league stops, batted .289 (116-for-402) with 17 doubles, six triples, two home runs and 26 RBI in 101 games... was tied for second among all minor leaguers with 65 stolen bases... including five steals with the Padres, was 70-for-82 (.854) in stolen base attempts in 2004.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Was recalled from Triple-A Portland on August 17 and made his Major League debut that night vs. Atlanta... started in center field, going 1-for-5 with one walk, one RBI and one run scored... reached base safely in his first two plate appearances, which both came in a first inning that saw the Padres send 11 batters to the plate... singled to center (Jaret Wright) in his first career at-bat, which led off the bottom of the inning... scored on Phil Nevin's two-run double and later earned a two-out walk as the 10th batter of the frame... the next night against the same Atlanta club, picked up his first career stolen base off the battery of Paul Byrd and Johnny Estrada in the first inning.

HIT TRACKER: Hit safely in his first six games and nine of his first 10 affairs, August 17-27... went 1-for his next-20 (.050) before finishing the season with four hits in nine at-bats (.444) October 2-3 at Arizona.

IN THE MINORS: Opened the minor league season at Mobile by stealing six bases in his first five games April 19-23... during the theft tear, began a season-best 10-game hitting streak, in which he went 16-for-38 (.421) from April 21-30... was promoted to Portland May 28 and posted his first four-hit game of the season on May 30 at Tucson... posted two more four-hit games, July 11 at Sacramento and July 26 at Salt Lake...finished the month of July with a .313 batting average, 22 runs scored, nine RBI and 19 stolen bases in 27 games... during the red-hot month, reached base safely via a hit or walk in 23 consecutive games July 6-August 1... capped the streak by swiping a season-best four bases August 1 vs. Colorado Springs.
