JUAN CEDENO...was born and makes his off-season home in Higuey, DR. 2011 Appeared in 17 games (three starts) with Rio Valley Grande in the Independent North American Baseball League, going 3-1 with a 6.49 ERA (43.0IP, 31ER)... made 15 relief appearances with the Tigres de Licey during the 2011 DWL, going 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA (8.2IP, 8H, 3R, 1ER, 3BB, 6K). 2010 Did not pitch during the regular season. 2009 Signed with Doosan in the Korean Baseball Organization, going 4-7 with a 5.70 ERA (71.0IP, 45ER), 48BB and 41K. 2008 Signed with Washington on 11/6/07 and was selected by Detroit in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft on 12/6/07...combined with Double-A Erie and Single-A Lakeland to go 3-2 with a 4.30 ERA (60.2IP, 29ER) before being released on 8/1...signed with Los Angeles-NL on 8/3 and reported to Single-A Great Lakes for the remainder of the season (0-4, 4.22 ERA in six starts). 2007 In his final season with the Royals organization, went 3-2 with a 6.33 ERA (69.2IP, 49ER) in 35 games (one start)...lone start came on 6/12 vs. Tulsa...pitched with Licey in the Dominican Winter League following the season (1-0, 1.54 ERA). 2006 Cedeno was the key to the 2005 trade of Tony Graffanino to the Red Sox. A hard thrower, Cedeno was in 37 games (11 starts) for Wichita, and finished with a 2-9 record and a 5.78 ERA. His big problem was control -- 78 walks in 90 1/3 innings. 2005 Split season between Wilmington (A) and Wichita (AA)...went 2-6 with a 5.49 ERA in 22 games (12 starts) at Wilmington prior to being traded to the Kansas City organization on July 19 in a deal that sent Tony Graffanino to Boston...allowed 85 hits in 80.1 innings, walking 37 and striking out 71...Following the trade, appeared in 11 games for Wichita, also making 1 start... went 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA, allowing 21 hits in 20.0 innings while walking 11 and striking out 16. 2004 Went 7-6 with a 4.64 ERA in 25 games (22 starts) with Single-A Sarasota...logged a career-high 120.1 innings while walking 4 fewer batters than his 2003 total in 20 fewer innings...was 7-3 with a 3.38 ERA (35 ER/93.1 IP) through his first 19 outings (17 starts), but went 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA (27 ER/27.0 IP) in his final 6 games (5 starts) beginning July 1...was touched for 6 home runs in his final 10 games (41.2 IP) after surrendering only 2 long balls in his first 15 contests (78.2 IP) ... Tossed 7.0 shutout innings in a no-decision May 13 vs. Vero Beach...hurled a 7.0-inning complete game June 8 at Fort Myers, the first of his career...fanned a season-high 7 batters in consecutive starts June 14 vs. Dunedin and June 19 vs. Lakeland, part of a 5-game winning streak from May 29-July 3...boasted a 2.04 ERA (9 ER/39.2 IP) during the run...was named SaraSox Pitcher of the Month for June after going 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA (6 ER/28.0 IP) in 6 games (5 starts). 2003 Was named Single-A Augusta's Pitcher of the Year after going 7-9 with a 3.02 ERA in 23 outings (21 starts)...his 3.02 ERA tied for 3rd among Sox minor leaguers...led the GreenJackets with 101.1 innings pitched and a personal-high 87 strikeouts...tied for the team lead in wins...after going 0-1 with a 10.29 ERA (8 ER/7.0 IP) in 4 April games (3 starts) went 7-8 with a 2.48 ERA (26 ER/94.1 IP) in 19 games (18 starts) the rest of the way...fanned a season-high 9 in 6.0 innings of one-run ball in a win June 13 vs. South Georgia...tossed 6.0 innings of 3-hit shutout ball June 27 vs. Hickory...followed that outing with 4.0 innings of hitless relief July 2 vs. Capital City. 2002 Pitching for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast Red Sox, went 2-5 with a 4.19 ERA in 11 games (7 starts)...allowed just one home run and 12 walks in 43.0 innings...was not taken deep over his final 8 outings (37.1 IP)...went 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA (6 ER/22.0 IP) over his final 4 games (3 starts)...after going 0-2 with a 11.12 ERA (7 ER/5.2 IP) in 3 June games, was 2-3 with a 3.13 ERA (13 ER/37.1 IP) in 7 games (6 starts) in July and August...fired 6.0 shutout innings to win his final start August 21 vs. the Pirates. 2001 Signed as a non-drafted free agent January 5, he made his pro debut with the Dominican Summer League Red Sox, going 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts...did not allow a home run and struck out 77 in 64.0 innings, an average of 10.8 punchouts per 9 innings...limited the opposition to a .198 batting average.
