Daryl Marcelus Thompson...2003 graduate of La Plata (MD) High School. 2011 Was an invite to Reds Spring Training...started the season with Double-A Carolina...Made nine starts for the Mudcats before being recalled by Cincinnati, May 26...Appeared in one game for Reds, allowing five runs on six hits in 3.0 relief innings, May 26 at Philadelphia...optioned to Double-A Carolina, May 27, then to Louisville, May 30...Recalled by Cincinnati, June 6 but did not appear in a game for the Reds...optioned back to Louisville, June 7...Went 2-0, 2.48 (40.0 ip, 11 er) with 39 strikeouts in his first seven games (six starts) for the Bats...Elected free agency, November 1 and signed with the Twins, November 17. 2010 Posted a 3.48era in 15 starts for the Arizona League Reds and Class AA Carolina...was on the Mudcats' disabled list twice with shoulder injuries, first from 5/17-6/30 with a strain and then from 6/26-9/1 with inflammation...made all 3 apps for the AZL Reds during 2 separate rehabilitation assignments...following the season played for the Peoria Saguaros in the prestigious Arizona Fall League (6g, 5gs, 2-2, 4.50, 18ip, 18h, 8bb, 16k)...was named the AFL's Pitcher of the Week for the first week of November (1gs, 4ip, 6k)...on 11/19 was added to the 40-man roster. 2009 Made just nine appearances in the minor leagues due to three stints on the disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow: April 9-21, May 20-June 24, and July 1-through the rest of the season...had surgery to repair the frayed posterior labrum in his right shoulder, by Dr. Timothy Kremcheck...was outrighted off Cincinnati's 40-man roster, November 20. 2008 Was the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year...in 20 starts at Class A Sarasota, Class AA Chattanooga and Class AAA Louisville and 1 rehab relief appearance at GCL Sarasota combined to finish 8-4, 2.70 (126.2ip, 105h, 30bb, 99k)...led all Reds minor leaguers in ERA...from 7/17-8/12 was on Louisville's disabled list with a strained right shoulder...in his Major League debut made 3 starts for the Reds from 6/21-7/2...didn't allow a run in his Major League debut on 6/21 at NYY (5ip), a 6-0 Reds win...Yankees starter Dan Giese didn't allow a run until the seventh inning...for only the fourth time in history, opposing starting pitchers making their first Major League starts held the other team scoreless through 5 innings...it last had occurred on 6/25/72, when Mil's Earl Stephenson and Bos' Lynn McGlothen did it...first career strikeout victim was Jorge Posada...began his career with 9.0 scoreless innings until Grady Sizemore's solo HR on 6/27 at Cle...in those first 9.0 career innings over 2 starts stranded 12 baserunners without allowing a run, including at least 1 stranded runner in 8 consecutive innings...in his 3 starts the Reds went 1-2 and scored 11 runs (3.67 r/g)...in a 4-3 victory on 6/30 vs Pit pinch ran for David Ross and scored the tying run on Ken Griffey Jr.'s 2-run walkoff HR...was 1 of 10 Reds player to make his Major League debut, joining RHP Johnny Cueto, IF Paul Janish, OF Jay Bruce, LHP Daniel Ray Herrera, IF Adam Rosales, OF Chris Dickerson, RHP Ramon Ramirez, C/IF/OF Wilkin Castillo and RHP Josh Roenicke...in a 13-12 Bats win on 6/7 vs Indianapolis allowed a season-high 8 earned runs in 5.0 innings...without that appearance his ERA for Louisville drops from 2.76 to 1.33...pitched into the sixth inning in all 10 of his starts for Chattanooga...during spring training wore uniform number 75. 2007 At Class A Dayton and Sarasota combined to finish 14-5, 3.18 in 27 starts...among all Reds minor league pitchers ranked first in victories, second in ERA and fifth in strikeouts (121)...was the organization's Pitcher of the Month for April (4gs, 4-0, 0.39, 23ip, 11h, 1er, 1bb, 19k) and August (6gs, 5-0, 1.80, 30ip, 26h, 8bb, 26k)...was Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for 4/16-4/22 (2gs, 2-0, 0.00, 12ip, 0h, 0r, 0bb, 8k) and Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for 8/13-8/19 (2gs, 2-0, 1.64, 11ip, 8h, 2er, 2bb, 10k)...led Sarasota with 9 wins and 97 strikeouts...on 11/20 was added to the 40-man roster. 2006 At Class A Vermont and GCL Reds combined to finish 0-1, 3.92 in 8 starts and 1 relief appearance...began the season in the Nationals organization but was traded to the Reds on 7/13 as part of an 8-player deal...prior to the season was ranked by Baseball America as the 10th-best prospect in the Nationals' organization. 2005 At Class A Savannah was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for 4/26-5/2 (2-0, 12ip, 0r, 10k, 2bb). 2004 At Class A Savannah went 4-9, 5.08 in 21 starts and 4 relief apps. 2003 Signed his first contract on 6/8 and spent his first professional season with the Rookie GCL Expos.
