Joshua Ryan Horton was originally singed by A's scout Neil Avent...graduated from Orange High School (NC)...attended the University of North Carolina...earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All- America honors from Collegiate Baseball in 2005. 2010 Combined to hit .298 with five home runs and 57 RBI in 116 games with Single-A Stockton and Double- A Midland...the batting average was a career high as were his 23 doubles and .400 slugging percentage... matched his career high in hits (134), home runs and extra base hits (32)...ranked fifth in the A's farm system in batting and was seventh in hits...began the season on the disabled list as he was recovering from surgery on his right forearm...was reinstated April 29 and hit .467 with five doubles, one triple, two home runs and six RBI in eight games with Stockton before he was promoted to Midland May 8... went on to bat .286 with three home runs and 51 RBI in 108 games with the Rockhounds...was named to the Texas League Postseason All-Star Team as a utility player...was the second toughest to strikeout in the TL as he fanned just 50 times for an average of 9.40 plate appearances per strikeout...combined at both levels for a .296 (48 for 162) batting average against left-handed pitching and .299 (86 for 288) with all five of his home runs against right-handers...committed 14 errors in 107 games at shortstop (.972 fielding percentage)...also appeared in four games at second base, all with Stockton, and did not commit an error in 23 chances...hit in every spot in the order except fourth and ninth, and saw his most action with 51 games hitting second...played for Obregon in the Mexican Winter League following the season and hit .459 with two doubles and three RBI in 11 games. 2011 Spent the entire season at Double-A Midland and hit .263 with five home runs and 62 RBI in 125 games...had career highs in games, at bats (510), runs (80), hits (134), triples (6), home runs, RBI, walks (65) and stolen bases (9)...ranked fifth in the Texas League in runs...led the Rockhounds in at bats and triples and tied for the team lead in games...tied for third in the A's farm system in triples and ranked fourth in walks...batted .274 with four of his five home runs against right-handed pitching compared to .231 against left-handers...committed 22 errors in 91 games at shortstop for a .953 fielding percentage... also appeared in three games at second base...saw his most action with 96 games batting second...went 17 for 41 (.415) with four two-hit games and three three-hit games over an eight-game stretch from May 22 to 30...scored at least one run in each of the eight games (13 runs total)...batted .361 (22 for 61) with 12 runs scored and nine RBI during a season-best 14-game hitting streak from June 23 to July 10...that included a season-high four-hit game at Frisco June 25...had his best single month batting average in June when he hit .313 in 27 games...named to the Texas League Midseason All-Star Team and had a RBI double in his only at bat...was hitting .293 before the All-Star Game and then batted .213 after the break...went 5 for 31 (.161) with two home runs and four RBI in eight postseason games for the Texas League Champion Rockhounds...was named as having the Best Strike-Zone Discipline in the A's organization in Baseball America's Best Tools survey for prospects following the season. 2008 Spent his first full professional season at Single-A Stockton and batted .277 with one home run and 42 RBI in 118 games...hit .292 against left-handed pitching and .271 with his lone home run and 35 of his 42 RBI against right-handers...batted .376 in the first inning...appeared exclusively at shortstop on defense and committed 20 errors in 117 games for a .959 fielding percentage...hit second in the order 123 times...hit .322 in May and .314 in June, giving him a .303 batting average entering July...then hit .235 over his final 44 games...had a season high four hits June 19 at High Desert...that was part of a 12- game hitting streak from June 18 to July 3, during which he batted .382 (21 for 55) with his only home run (June 27 vs. Lake Elsinore)...batted .388 (19 for 49) with four doubles, eight RBI and eight walks in 12 postseason games for the California League Champion Ports. 2007 Made his professional debut with Vancouver of the Short-Season Northwest League and hit .268 in 14 games before he was promoted to Single-A Kane County July 26...batted .279 in 38 games with the Cougars for a .276 batting average, two home runs and 21 RBI in 52 games overall...added 36 walks and was hit by a pitch a career-high seven times for a career-best .419 on-base percentage...batted .301 against right-handed pitching compared to .220 against left-handers...committed 12 errors in 50 games at shortstop for a .930 fielding percentage...also appeared in one game each at second base and third base...hit his first professional home run July 14 at Eugene.
