Earned two varsity letters in baseball playing for Keith Merkel at St. Mary's High (AZ)…Posted an 8-1 record with an ERA of 0.50 as a senior en route to earning the state of Arizona Player of the Year award along with a Baseball America All-America distinction…Was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 First Year Player Draft by the Angels, but elected to attend the University of San Diego…Was named first-team All-State as a junior after posting a 8-2 record with an ERA of 0.95…Orioles amateur scout Mark Ralston was responsible for his selection.
