Full name is Brett Gregory Hayes...married to Elly...Graduated from Norte Dame High School (Sherman Oaks, CA)...Attended the University of Nevada-Reno where he majored in speech communication...was a three-time AllWAC catcher, 2003 WAC Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American...finalist for the 2005 Johnny Bench Award, presented to top collegiate catcher...Member of Team USA squad that captured gold at FISU II World University Baseball Championships in 2004...Father, Tim Jr., was selected by the Royals in the fourth round of the 1975 MLB January Draft, but never played professionally...his great-grandfather, Tim, played in the Cleveland Indians system.

Brett spent most of the year in Omaha (AAA), but had two stints with Kansas City...had his contract selected on August 4 when Salvador Perez was placed on the seven-day concussion list...recalled on September 1 and spent therest of the season with the Royals... Blasted first home run in over two seasons on September 29, a two-run shot off Chicago's Jose Quintana...went 2-for-4 with a double vs. Minnesota on August 7 in his KC debut...four of his five MLB hits were for extra bases... Hit 17 homers in 78 games for the Storm Chasers, which ranked second among Pacific Coast League catchers.
2012 Brett opened the season as the Marlins back-up catcher and also spent time at New Orleans (AAA). 2011 Made 33 starts at catcher, batting .257 (27x105) with nine doubles, 11 runs, four home runs and 14 RBI in those games...Hit first career grand slam on June 5 vs. Milwaukee, setting a new career high with four RBI...Went 1x9 (.111) as a pinch-hitter, and was used as a pinch-runner on 11 occasions, scoring six runs...Made first two appearances of career in outfield. Entered game on July 20 vs. San Diego in ninth inning as a defensive replacement in right field.
