Pitched for six different independent teams in three different leagues, all between 2005- 09: the Yuma Scorpions, Long Beach Armada, Orange County Flyers and Victoria Seals, all of the Golden Baseball League; the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League; and the El Paso Diablos of the American Association...Spent a season as the closer for the late Hall of Famer Gary Carter, who managed the Orange County Flyers in 2008...during that season the Flyers won the GBL championship and Carter was named the league's Manager of the Year...Nearly quit baseball after his first season of independent ball...he sat out the entire 2006 season, got his real estate license and began working for a real estate company in Temecula, Calif. ...after three months in the business, he decided it was too slow and went back to pitching.

2013

Acquired from Tampa Bay March 27th in exchange for RHP Steve Geltz…Made Angels debut April 9th vs. Oakland... Completed rookie campaign with a 6-1 mark, 2.86 ERA (72.1 IP - 23 ER), team-best 20 holds, two saves, 65 strikeouts and 28 walks... Became first Angels rookie reliever with six wins and two saves in a season since Francisco Rodriguez in 2003... Appeared in a club-leading 75 games in 2013, breaking Bill Kelso's Angels rookie record for games pitched in a season (69 games, 1967)... His 75 appearances ranked fifth in the AL and were third-most all-time in Angels history…Only Scot Shields (78 games, 2005) and Francisco Rodriguez (76 games, 2008) appeared in more games in a single season for the Halos... First rookie in American League history to pitch 74 or more games and allow three-or-fewer home runs... Among AL rookies, ranked 2nd in games, tied-5th in wins and tied-3rd in saves, while ranking 5th among AL rookie relievers with 65 strikeouts... Tossed 17 straight scoreless outings to finish 2013 campaign... In final 26 outings (since August 2nd), compiled a 2-0 record with two saves, 10 holds and 0.41 ERA (22 IP - 1 ER).

2012

Made five relief appearances for Tampa Bay across two stints with the Rays... Recalled from Triple-A Durham on April 14 and made first appearance of the season later that night at Boston...Allowed five runs on four hits in one inning of work at Fenway Park before being optioned back to Durham the following day... Following the conclusion of the Minor League season, was recalled by Rays on September 5th... as charged with two earned runs in first September appearance but had three straight scoreless outings to conclude the regular season.

2011 Spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Durham, but made 7 relief apps over two stints in the majors, his first time in the big leagues...Recalled by the Rays on July 19 and made his major league debut the following day vs. the Yankees at Tropicana Field...relieved David Price with 1 out in the 8th inning, trailing 2-0... struck out his first batter (Mark Teixeira) and escaped the inning unharmed...in the 9th inning walked 2 batters and was removed...optioned to Durham on July 22...Recalled a second time on Sep 11 and remained with the Rays for the rest of the season... made 6 apps during his second stint, 4 of them scoreless...Six of his 8 R/ER allowed came on Sep 22 at NYY...entered for Matt Moore with a 13-0 lead and yielded 6 R/ER on 8 hits over one inning of work...Rays went on to win, 15-8...Led the Durham bullpen with 52 relief apps and 70.1 innings...went 2-2 with 4 saves and a 2.03 ERA (26.2-IP, 6-ER) in 20 games after the AllStar break...Appeared in 4 games for the Rays in his first major league camp during spring training. 2010 Spent the majority of the season in the bullpen at Double-A Montgomery, where he went 9-3 with 4 saves and a 1.97 ERA (73-IP, 16-ER) in 47 outings ... was promoted to the Biscuits on April 24 after appearing in 2 games for Class-A Charlotte. ... Returned from effectively a five-year absence from affiliated baseball, with the exception of 1 appearance for Rookie-level Helena (Brewers) in 2007. ... This past January was selected to attend the Rays Winter Development Program held at Tropicana Field. 2009 In 2009 pitched for three different independent league clubs, culminating with an 18-game stint with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the Atlantic League ... compiled a 1.11 ERA for the Blue Crabs with 32 SO in 24.1 IP, all in relief. ...
