Luke Montz…is married, Kerry…graduated from Acadiana High School (LA) in 2001…attended Hill Junior College in Hillsboro, Texas…hit .350 as a freshman and .340 as a sophomore

Returned to the majors for the first time in five years, batting .179 with five RBI in 13 games during a one-month stay with the A's…four of his five hits were for extra bases (three doubles, one home run)… went 5-for-25 (.200) against left-handed pitching, 0-for-3 against right-handers…made eight starts at designated hitter and also appeared in one inning at first base May 7 at Cleveland…was 1-for-5 (.200) as a pinch hitter…was selected from Triple-A Sacramento May 1 and went 1-for-4 with a double in a start at designated hitter that day against Los Angeles (AL)…had two hits, including his lone home run May 5 at New York (AL)…went 3-for-11 (.273) with two RBI over his first three games, 2-for-17 (.118) with three RBI over his final 10 contests…was optioned to Sacramento May 31.

2012 Batted .222 with 29 home runs and 74 RBI in 123 games for Triple-A New Orleans in the Miami organization...the home runs were a career-high, ranked second in the Pacific Coast League and tied for sixth in all of the minor leagues...led the Zephyrs in games, home runs and RBI and was second in strikeouts (101)...batted .248 (31-for-125) with 13 home runs against left-handed pitching compared to .208 (51- for-245) with 16 home runs against right-handers...slugged .608 against lefties compared to .437 against righties...hit .247 with runners in scoring position but batted .184 with RISP and two outs...was 5-for- 13 (.385) with two grand slams and 19 RBI with the bases loaded...appeared in 52 games at first base, 40 at catcher and four in left field...hit .205 in 11 games as the designated hitter and was also 1-for-14 (.071) with three walks, a double and RBI as a pinch hitter...tossed out 5-of-30 (16.7%) attempted base stealers...hit in every spot in the order except second and third...saw his most action with 27 games hitting fourth and sixth...played for Mexicali in the Mexican-Pacific Winter League following the season and batted .246 with nine home runs and 31 RBI in 36 games. 2011 Spent season at double-A Jacksonville and led Suns in doubles, home runs and RBI, ranked second in hits and runs scored, earning Southern League All-Star honors. Ranked third in SL in walks and fourth in home runs. Walks total ranked ninth among all double-A players...Also ranked fourth in SL in on-base percentage and OPS (.900), sixth in slugging percentage, ninth in walk-to-strikeout ratio (0.78) and 10th in RBI...Tallied a season-high five RBI on May 6 at Huntsville, going 2x4 with a double and home run. Equaled total on May 16 at Mississippi with a 3x4 day that included a double and home run...Earned SL Player of the Week honors from May 2-8 after batting .438 (7x16) with eight runs scored, three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI in six games...Connected for his only grand slam of season on June 10 in a 10-inning, 6-5 win over Montgomery...Tallied a season-best three hits four times; April 16 at Jackson, May 16 at Mississippi, May 27 at Montgomery and July 3 vs. Birmingham...Best offensive month came in June, when he hit .321 (26x81) with 15 runs scored, five doubles, five home runs and 17 RBI...Hit left-handed pitchers at a .351 clip (40x114) with 12 doubles and 12 home runs. Average dipped to .242 (68x281) against right-handers...Appeared at catcher, first base, left field, right field, designated hitter and pinchhitter...Following the season, played for Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League. 2009 Began the year with Syracuse (AAA) of the International League...Appeared in 12 games before he was optioned to Harrisburg (AA) of the Eastern League on April 31st...Caught 68 games at Harrisburg...Also played six games at first base and two contests at third base...Hit home runs in consecutive games, June 18th vs. Binghamton and June 20th at Reading. 2008 After playing in 100 or more games for the first time, unexpectedly had contract selected from Triple-A Columbus on September 2 when Jesus Flores sustained an ankle injury in home-plate collision with Chase Utley on September 2 vs. PHI...made big league debut as starting catcher, September 4 at ATL...formed battery with RHP Shairon Martis, who was also making his big league debut...thus, formed the first battery in which both the pitcher and catcher were making an MLB debut since Luther Hackman and Ben Petrick turned the trick for COL, September 1, 1999 vs. PIT.....first big league hit was RBI single, September 14 at FLA, off Anibal Sanchez...clubbed first big league homer, a solo blast off Kyle Kendrick, on final day of season, September 28 at PHI...gunned down 3 of 9 (33%) would-be basestealers. 2007 Combined to hit .254 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 100 games with Potomac (A) of the Carolina League and Harrisburg (AA) of the Eastern League. 2006 Finished fourth in the Carolina League in RBI and sixth in home runs. 2005 Hit a career-best 19 home runs for Savannah (A) of the South Atlantic League. 2004 Belted 10 home runs in 62 games for Vermont (A) of the New York-Penn League. 2003 Made his professional debut with the rookie-level Gulf Coast Expos.
