Micah Burton Owings...graduated from Gainesville (GA) High School in 2002 after leading his team to two state championships...also attended Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, Ga., transferring after his sophomore year...played collegiately at Georgia Tech University and then Tulane, transferring for his junior season...named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2003 and Conference USA Player of the Year in 2005...pitched and played first base for the Team USA club that won silver medal in the 2003 Pan Am Games. 2011 Returned to the D-backs, making 33 appearances (four starts) on the mound and one pinch-hit appearance...Tallied a career-high eight-game winning streak by winning all of his eight decisions on the year...went 3-0 as a starter and 5-0 out of the bullpen...tied for the team lead with his five relief wins...Worked scoreless ball in 20 of his 29 relief appearances...pitched more than 1.0 inning in 11 outings from the bullpen...Grabbed the win in Game 4 of the NLDS vs. MIL, working 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. 2010 Opened the season with the Reds and posted a 3-2 record and 5.40 ERA (20 ER in 33.1 IP) in 22 relief appearances before being optioned to Triple-A Louisville on July 21...Tossed at least 2.0 innings in 7 of his 22 appearances for the Reds, including 3 appearances with at least 3.0 innings pitched...Made 7 appearances as a pinch hitter... connected for his ninth career home run on May 7 vs. Cubs...Collected 5 strikeouts in 4.0 innings, both of which were season-highs, on April 23 vs. Padres...Optioned to Louisville on July 21 and spent the remainder of the season with the Bats...posted a 2.21 ERA (5 ER in 20.1 IP) in 8 games (5 starts)...Was designated for assignment on Aug. 16...cleared waivers 10 days later and accepted an outright assignment to Louisville. 2009 Went 6-11, 5.74 in his 19 starts and 1-1, 3.06 in his 7 relief apps...made 19 of his first 20 apps as a starter and each of his last 6 apps in relief (12ip, 5er)...in the 4-2 win on 9/6 at Atl recorded both the victory and the game-winning RBI when while batting in the 12th inning he was hit in the helmet by a Kenshin Kawakami pitch with the bases loaded... the rest of the season appeared in only 3g, all as pitcher...in the 11-5 win on 9/1 vs Pit pitched the final 3.0 innings to earn his first professional save...in his last 4 starts went 0-4,10.90 (17.1ip, 21er)...from 7/27-8/19 was on the disabled list with a tight right shoulder...made 2 rehab starts at Louisville (1-0, 0.87) before starting the 5-2 loss on 8/21 at Pit...in his 19 starts the Reds went 7-12...made 6 quality starts...with an 8-2 win on 4/26 vs Atl snapped his personal 9-game losing streak dating back to a 9-3 Diamondbacks victory on 5/25/08 at Atl...in 14 apps and 10 starts between victories went 0-9, 8.53...in the 16-inning, 6-5 loss at SD on 5/16 threw a career-high 5.2 innings in relief (3h, 1er, 3bb, 5k, 1hr, 81 pitches, 44 strikes)...entered the game in the 11th inning as the Reds' seventh and final pitcher...retired his first 10 batters until Scott Hairston singled with 1 out in the 14th inning... Threw his first career complete game on May 24 against Houston, allowing 1 run off 9 hits with a season-high 8 strikeouts...Pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout on Sept. 18 against San Francisco, the 15th 2-hit shutout in franchise history...it was only the seventh complete game, 2-hit shutout in franchise history (3 by Randy Johnson, 2 by Curt Schilling and 1 by Brandon Webb)...was 1 of 4 rookies to throw complete game shutouts this season...On Sept. 27 at Pittsburgh, he tossed 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits while striking out 4...at the plate, he went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and tied the franchise-high with 3 doubles...he became the first pitcher since Whitey Ford in 1953 to collect two 4-hit games in a single season...Hit his first career home run on July 26 against Florida, a 2-run shot off Byung-Hyun Kim...Pinned with his first loss on April 11 vs. Cincinnati, despite tossing his first Major League quality start, allowing 2 runs over 6.1 innings...Went 4-0 with a 4.40 ERA (21 ER in 43.0 IP) over 7 starts (8 games) from May 8-June 20, striking out 26 over that stretch...Took the loss in 4 straight starts from June 25-July 16 (1 relief appearance on June 28), holding a 7.48 ERA (18 ER in 21.2 IP) in those games...Was 1-for-4 with 2 walks as a pinch-hitter this season.
