Graduated from Simi Valley HS and had committed to the University of Arizona before signing his pro contract on 6/23/05 ...as a senior hit .414 (36-for-87) with 3 HR and 19 RBI...his junior year helped lead Simi Valley HS to the CIF Southern Section Division II baseball title...in his two seasons as starting catcher at Simi Valley High, he threw out 44 of 49 would-be base stealers and added 36 pickoffs...Simi Valley HS has produced professional players such as Jeff and Jered Weaver, Tim Laker and Scott Radinsky...parents Steve and Cindy were both born and raised in St. Louis and remain loyal Cardinals fans...began his first professional spring camp in 2006 in major league camp, the first Cardinals draft selection to leap from the draft to big-league camp since Matt Pagnozzi in 2003...resides in Simi Valley, Calif. 2011 Spent the season with Triple-A Memphis as the team's everyday catcher, appearing in 98 games...Committed eight errors and threw out 24 would-be base stealers, posting a 24% caught stealing (24-102) mark...His 92 games as catcher ranked 2nd most in the Pacific Coast League as did his 603 putouts...Hit .295 vs. righthanders, with seven of his eight home runs coming against righties...Batted .335 on the road (63-188) vs. .211 at home (31-147)...Had a 7-game hit streak (14-30)from8/3-12 that included six straightmulti-hit games against Reno (6-14)& ColoradoSprings (7-13)...His 19 doubles tied for 5th-most on the team and were his most since he picked up 29 in '06 while at Quad Cities (low-A). 2010 Made his Major League debut on 4/15/10 vs. Houston...Earned his first Major League hit on 4/20 at Arizona, a single to right field off Dan Haren...Appeared in 15 games, starting seven in two stints with the Cardinals and was 3-for-8 (.375) as a pinch-hitter...Owns a career .367 BA (11-30) as a pinch hitter in the minor leagues...Played in 82 games at Memphis (AAA) and batted .270 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI.
