Missed the entire season after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery...Surgery performed on 2/18/14 by Dr. James Andrews.

Missed the entire season due to recovery from Tommy John surgery...Surgery performed on May 23, 2012.

2012 Made just five starts for the Padres before landing on the 15-day DL with a strained left elbow on 5/2 and undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery on his left elbow on 5/23. Started the Padres second game of the season on 4/6 vs. LAD at Petco Park, taking the loss after working 4.2 innings and allowing six runs on nine hits...his only loss of 2012. Padres won his other four starts from 4/11-27, going 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA(4 ER/26.1 IP) and 17 strikeouts against just 19 hits allowed over that span. Worked a career-high 8.0 innings in his second-to-last start on 4/21 at PHI, allowing just two hits and two walks with no runs while striking out five. Agreed to terms on a contract extension through 2015 on 3/30 (with club options for 2016 and 2017). 2011 Made his first Opening Day roster, beginning the season in the bullpen before making his way to the starting rotation...finished the season having made 17 starts and 29 relief appearances...Began the season by making 29 appearances out of the bullpen, going 1-2 with a 3.23 ERA (14 ER/39.0 IP), three holds and a .182 opponent batting average...moved to the starting rotation and made his first start 6/26 vs. ATL...As a starter, went 5-8 with a 3.31 ERA (37 ER/100.2 IP) and a .218 opponent average over his 17 games...Over the entire season, limited opponents to a .209 average...fifth-best ever by a Padres pitcher with 100-or-more innings pitched and best ever by a Padres rookie...Struck out 9.9 per 9.0 IP and recorded a 3.50 K/BB ratio...his 154 strikeouts on the year were the second-most ever by a Padres rookie. 2010 Was selected from Triple-A Portland on 9/1 and made his Major League debut on 9/3 vs. COL...Earned his first ML win in his second start for the Padres on 9/8 vs. LAD, working six shutout innings...retired 18 of his 21 batters faced in the game...Went a combined 10-1 with a 2.68 ERA (34 ER/114.0 IP), a .200 (83-for-414) and 88 strikeouts against 29 walks over 19 games, 17 starts, between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Portland...At the time of his call-up on 9/1, ranked third in all of minor league baseball with a .200 opponents average and fifth with a 0.98 WHIP...Made one relief appearance for San Diego on 9/26 vs. CIN, working 2.0 shutout frames. 2009 Split the season between Single-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio, making a combined 23 starts...Combined to go 11-4 with a 2.78 ERA (40 ER/129.2 IP) with 112 strikeouts compared to 32 walks...Limited opponents to a .227 average at Single-A and a .241 mark with San Antonio...allowed just six home runs all year, three at each stop. 2008 Split the season between Single-A Lake Elsinore and Single-A Fort Wayne...Combined to go 6-9 with a 5.12 ERA (73 ER/128.1 IP) in 27 games (25 starts)...Did not allow a run in his two relief outings, combining for 1.2 IP with the Storm. 2007 Made his professional debut with Short-A Eugene, also seeing time with Padres Single-A affiliates in Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore...Combined to make 15 appearances (nine starts) over the three stops...went 5-3 with a 3.07 ERA (20 ER/58.2 IP)...struck out 61 while walking only eight, averaging 9.4 strikeouts per 9.0 IP and 1.2 walks.
