Graduated first in his class, was the KC Star's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and also was chosen as Missouri's High School Heisman Award winner... Graduated from and played baseball at Wichita State University... Was 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA as a senior and was named First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference.

2013

Appeared in 42 games with Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo after being claimed off waivers by Toronto in January of 2013 … went 0-1 with a 4.19 ERA (20 ER/43.0 IP) and 42 strikeouts in his lone season with the Blue Jays organization .... Began the year with New Hampshire, and went 0-1 with one save and a 4.74 ERA (13 ER/24.2 IP) in 18 relief appearances ... Struck out a season-high five hitters in 2.0 innings of work, April 12 at Binghamton ... Limited Double-A left-handed hitters to a .172 average (5-for-29) with 13 strikeouts ... Promoted to Buffalo in June … had no record with a 3.44 ERA (7 ER/18.1 IP) in 24 games ... Did not allow an earned run in his first 18 relief appearances (12.2 IP) ... Was limited to just two starts with Double-A Portland before undergoing "Tommy John" surgery in June and missing the remainder of the season ... Went 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA (5 ER/9.0 IP) and four strikeouts in two
starts before his injury ... Initially landed on the disabled list from April 3-May 16 with a left forearm strain ... Was placed on Portland's seven-day disabled list, May 28, and missed the remainder of the season after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery.

Worked 120.1 innings in 24 games (23 starts) with Double-A Portland of the Eastern League, going 4-10 with a 5.61 ERA (75 ER/120.1 IP) ... Landed on the seven-day D.L., July 5-August 4, with a left forearm strain.
