Graduated from Sylmar (CA) High School. Attended Glendale Community College before transferring to Long Beach State University.

2014

Made his first 18 appearances of the season as a starter, going 7-6 with a 4.96 ERA. The team went 9-9 in his starts, recording nine quality starts. Was moved to the bullpen after the July 11 promotion of Jimmy Nelson. Allowed a Major League-leading 29 HR (27 as a starter). Made his final 21 appearances of the season in relief, posting a 2.89 ERA (43.2 IP, 2HR, 14ER). Went unscored upon over his last nine outings (16.1 IP). Prior to this season had not pitched in relief since July 8, 2012 at Houston (54 straight starts).

2013

Went 7-4 with a 3.87 ERA in 21 starts...Produced 12 quality starts.....the team went 12-9 in his starts...Was the victim of 5 blown saves for the second straight season...Went just 2-2 with a 6.62 ERA in 9 home starts (50.1ip, 37er) but was 5-2 with a 2.09 ERA in 12 road starts (77.2ip, 18er)...Was on the 15-day disabled list from 6/5-8/6 with a strained left hamstring, retroactive to 6/4...Was 4-4 with a 5.32 ERA in 12 starts prior to going on the disabled list (69.1ip, 41er) and 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA in 9 starts after coming off (58.2ip, 14er)...Was voted Brewers Pitcher of the Month for August (5gs, 2-0, 2.61era, 31ip, 4bb, 29k)...Was voted Brewers Pitcher of the Month for September (4gs, 1-0, 1.63era, 27.2ip, 7bb, 27k)...Struck out a season-high 9 batters, the most by a Brewer in 2013, over 7.0 shutout innings in a 3-1 win on 8/25 at Cincinnati...Participated in the World Baseball Classic for Team Mexico.....took a 10-3 loss in his only start in the WBC on 3/9 vs. Team Canada (3ip, 7h, 4r, 4er, 0bb, 2k, 1wp)...Signed a 1-year contract on 1/17/14, avoiding arbitration.

2012 Went 5-7 with a 3.64 ERA in 29 appearances (23 starts). Made his fi rst Opening Day roster. Was named Brewers Unsung Hero as voted on by members of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Went 5-7 with a 3.76 ERA in his 23 starts (129.1ip, 54er) and 0-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his 6 relief appearances (9ip, 2er). His first 5 appearances of the season came in relief ... joined the rotation after an injury to Chris Narveson in late April. Went 0-5 with a 4.80 ERA in his fi rst 15 starts (80.2ip, 43er) and 5-2 with a 2.03 ERA over his last 8 starts (48.2ip, 11er) .. did not earn his first win of the season until 8/21 vs. Chicago-NL. Produced 11 quality starts ... the team went 11-12 in his starts. Was the victim of 5 blown saves. Struck out 143 batters in just 138.1 innings while recording only 29 walks. Averaged 9.3 strikeouts per 9 innings and only 1.9 walks. Ranked second on the team in strikeouts (143), trailing only Yovani Gallardo (204). Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 5/24 with a right quadriceps strain ... was reinstated on 6/26 after making rehab starts at Triple-A Nashville on 6/16 and 6/21. In his fi rst start off the disabled list struck out a career-high 12 batters over 6.0 innings on 6/26 at Cincinnati ... received a no-decision in the 4-3 loss. Also had 10+ strikeout performances on 7/14 vs. Pittsburgh (11k), 9/1 vs. Pittsburgh (10k) and 9/29 vs. Houston (11k) ... prior to 2012 had never had more than 7 strikeouts in a game. Tossed a career-high 8.0 innings in his fi nal start of the season and did not allow a run on 9/29 vs. Houston as he earned a 9-5 win (4h, 1bb, 11k). Named Brewers Pitcher of the Month for September/October (6gs, 3-2, 2.63era, 37.2ip, 39k). Signed a 1-year contract on 1/18/13, avoiding arbitration. Was selected to the Team Mexico provisional roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic 2011 Went 4-8 with a 4.08 ERA in 43 games (7 starts) ... Contract was selected from Triple-A Nashville on 4/6 (did not pitch for Nashville) ... Went 3-2 with a 3.70 ERA in his 7 starts (41.1ip, 17er) and 1-6 with a 4.38 ERA in his 36 relief appearances (51.1ip, 25er) ... Made his first 4 starts between 4/6-5/4, going 1-1 with a 5.18 ERA (24.1ip, 14er).....made 3 starts for the injured Zack Greinke during that period ... Had his first Major League win in a 5-4 victory on 4/6 vs. Atlanta (6ip, 8h, 4r, 4er, 1bb, 4k, 1hr) ... Made 4 relief appearances during the postseason, going 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA (6ip, 4er) 2010 Was claimed off waivers by Milwaukee from Washington on 2/3 ... Began the season at Triple-A Nashville, where he went 1-2 with a 3.15 ERA in 7 starts and held opponents to a .208 batting average ... Was recalled by Milwaukee on 5/18 ... Went 0-0 with a 9.53 ERA in 7 games (1 start) with the Brewers ... Made his only start on 5/23 at Minnesota (3ip, 4h, 2r, 2er, 1bb, 3k, 1hbp).....received no decision in the Brewers' 4-3 win ... Was optioned back to Nashville on 6/1 ...
