Opened season with Washington and appeared in 17 games before being designated for assignment on June 4 and traded to Chicago-NL on June 11...Held opponents to a .203 (14x69) batting average with Washington, but walked 16 in 18.0 innings (8.0 BB per 9.0 IP)...Made just five appearances with the Cubs before being designated for assignment on July 14, and outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on July 19...After three appearances with Iowa, was placed on 7-day disabled list from August 1 until end of Minor League season with a right elbow strain.

2012 Entered '12 as Nationals' closer (Drew Storen had bone chips removed during Spring Training)...successfully converted 9 saves in 12 chances for Washington in first extensive experience in the closing role...was strong in April (2.00 ERA, 5 saves in 6 opportunities), but struggled thereafter (7.52 ERA)...struggled with control (career-high 6.8 BB/9.0 IP)...endured 2 DL stints totalling 84 games (index finger, lower back/right elbow)...did not pitch after July 31...had season-ending surgery performed by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih (right elbow scope debridement) on Aug. 31 in DC. 2011 Went 3-3 two runs, one earned, on one hit, one walk, one hit batter and two wild pitches...also recorded his first career strikeout, Nelson Cruz...did not allow a run in his other two outings, including Sept. 30 at Seattle when he struck out three in 2.0 innings...finished with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings and also had three wild pitches ... pitched exclusively in relief for the first time as a professional and combined for a 2-1 record and a 5.18 ERA in a career-high 40 relief appearances with Single-A Stockton and Triple-A Sacramento...had 47 starts and 30 relief appearances in the first four seasons of his professional career...also had a careerhigh four saves...struck out 82 in 48.2 innings for an average of 15.16 per nine innings, which was the highest mark of his career...also for the Texas League lead with 16 wild pitches in just 41.0 innings...opened the season at Stockton and went 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in three starts before he was promoted to Midland April 18...went 1-6 with a 8.82 ERA in nine starts and was sent back to Stockton June 6...went 1-2 with a 4.72 ERA in 10 starts before being moved to the bullpen Aug. 2...converted both of his save opportunities and posted a 4.35 ERA in seven relief appearances with the Ports before he was transferred to Midland Aug. 20...went 1-1 with a 1.23 ERA over his final five relief appearances with the RockHounds...had a six-game losing streak over a seven start stretch from May 5 to June 8 (11.84 ERA)...had seven wild pitches in 4.1 innings May 28 against Northwest Arkansas, including three in the fifth inning...fanned a season high 11 and allowed just one hit and one walk in 5.1 shutout innings in a no decision July 1 against Modesto...pitched for the World Team in the All-Star Futures Game at Yankee Stadium July 12 (1.0 ip, 1 bb, 3 so)...tossed 5.0 shutout innings July 17 against Visalia but issued a season high seven walks...pitched for Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League following the extended spring training and was sent to Single-A Kane County May 11... spent the rest of the season with the Cougars and was 6-8 with a 3.07 ERA in 20 games, 18 starts...allowed a .214 opponents batting average, which included a .176 mark against left-handed hitters and .245 against right-handers...opponents hit .188 with runners in scoring position, including .167 with RISP and two outs...however, issued 58 walks for a .329 opponents on-base percentage...struck out 106 batters in 99.2 innings...allowed just two home runs, or one every 49.8 innings...did not allow a home run in the Brewers...made two appearances for Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League following the season and posted a 13.50 ERA (0.2 ip, 2 r, 1 er, 4 bb, 1 so). 2005 Pitched for the A's affiliate in the
