Full name NICHOLAS E. WEGLARZ...Wife, Miranda...Attended Lakeshore Catholic High School (Port Colborne, Ontario)...Second Canadian drafted in 2005 and was the top hitter in Canada in the 2005 draft...As a youngster looked up to the Montreal Expos' Larry Walker and later the Minnesota Twins' Justin Morneau...Was a member of the 2004 and 2005 Canadian Junior National teams. 2011 Spent the injury-plagued season at AA Akron...Season did not start until June 5 after tearing cartilage in his left knee in a minor league spring training game in mid-March that eventually required surgery...Once active season never got going as season average at Double A never got above .220...Also sidelined with tendonitis in same knee, a facial fracture after being hit with a bat on July 20 (on DL 7/20-8/3) and did not play after August 17 due to a left elbow strain...Did record 36 walks in 41 games for an on-base % of .360...Hit a pair of home runs w/4RBI on June 16 vs. New Hampshire...Was 6 for 52 from July 10 thru the end of his season on August 16...Did not have a hitting streak longer than 3 games...Hit .179 off both LHP and RHP. 2010 Had a successful, injury-shortened season as he appeared at the Triple-A level for the first time after opening the season at AA Akron...Was with Akron from April 8-May 21, splitting his time between the DH spot and left field...Hit at least .280 in both months at Akron and overall he hit .285 (39-137) with 10 2B, 7HR & 27 RBI in 37 games (.387OB/.511LGS/.897OPS)...Went 2 for 6 w/a 2B, HR & 6RBI on May 7 at Reading...Hit .333 (25-75) with runners on base at Akron and .299 (26-87, .984OPS) off RHP and appeared in all 37 games in the 3rd spot in the order....At the time of his promotion to Columbus he was 11th in the Eastern League in extra base hits (17), slugging % (.511) and OPS (.897), T5th in HR (7) and T9th in RBI (27) ...Promoted to AAA Columbus on May 22 and struggled initially thru the end of June, hitting .231 (24-104, 1HR, 12RBI) in his first 30 games...In July before his season-ended on July 26 he hit .366 (26-71) with 8 2B, 5HR & 8 RBI in 20 games (.464OB/.690SLG/1.154OPS)...Over his last 10 games from July 16-26 he hit .412 (14-34) with 5 2B, 3HR & 5RBI (1.347OPS)...Suffered a tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb sliding into a base on July 26 vs. Pawtucket that ended his season and eventually required surgery on August 9. ...Appeared in 30 games in LF and 11 games in RF at Columbus...Overall on the year he hit .285 (89-312) with 27 2B, 13HR & 47 RBI in 87 games (.390OB/.503SLG/.893OPS)...Hit .319 (15-47) off LHP (.990OPS) for Columbus and .273 (35-128) off RHP (851OPS)...Played in Venezuelan Winter League after the season...Named 5th best Indians prospect by Baseball America entering 2011 season. 2009 Spent the season at AA Akron... Entered the season as the 3rd best prospect in the Indians organization according to Baseball America...Was youngest member of the 2009 Canadian World Baseball Classic Team (0-5, 3BB, 2 starts in left field)...Finished 10th in the Eastern League with a .377 on-base %, T2nd in walks (75) and 11th in runs scored (69) despite not playing after August 14th due to shin splints...Got off to a slow start in April (5-56, .089, HR, 6RBI, 19G) before hitting .329 (28-85) in May with 7 2B, 6HR & 28 RBI in 26 games...Followed that up in June by hitting .281 (25-89) with 7 2B, 5HR & 21 RBI in 27 games...Was an Eastern League mid-season all-star and participated in the Future's Game in St. Louis...Had two 4 walk games...Homered in 3 straight games, June 23-25, and 4 of 5 games from June 23-27...Over his last 22 games in the 2nd half he hit .158 (12-76) with w/3HR & 6RBI...Hit .261 (30-115) off LHP (.897OPS) and .210 (47-224) off RHP (.762OPS)...Primarily appeared in left field for the Eastern League champions...Hit .261 (40-153) with runners on base, .276 (29-105) with RISP and .295 (13-44) with RISP-2outs... After the season he played for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League where he was limited to just 8 games and eventually had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left tibia (rod inserted)...Added to 40-man roster on Nov 20...Named the 4th best prospect in the Indians organization entering 2010 according to Baseball America. 2008 2008 Was 4th in the Carolina League in walks (71) and 5th in on-base % (.396)...Youngest member of Team Canada in the Beijing Olympics...After the season was named the 4th best prospect in the Carolina League by BA... Entered the season as the 6th best prospect in the Indians organization according to Baseball America 2007 2007 He was 6th in the South Atlantic League in home runs, 8th in OBP and 10th in OPS... In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, he split left field duties for Team Canada with veteran Jeremy Ware and was 5-for-11 w/2 doubles, a triple, 5 runs and 3 RBI in five games. 2006 2006 Missed most of the season with right hand injury.
