Brett Wallace was a star hitter in college under Pat Murphy and the Padres hope he can display that swing again. Wallace on Friday was called up from Triple-A El Paso to be a left-handed bat off the Padres bench.

Graduated from Justin-Siena High School in California and went on to attend Arizona State ASU, was a First-Team All-American in both 2007 and 2008...named Pac-10 Player of the Year in his sophomore and junior seasons (2007-08), just the fifth player in conference history to win the award in consecutive seasons...captured the Pac-10 Triple Crown both seasons and led his team to the College World Series in 2007. ... Drafted by St. Louis (13th overall) in the first round of the June 2008 draft...signed by Cardinals scout Aaron Krawiec. ... Added to the Astros 40-man roster on July 31, 2010...currently signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2013 season. 2012 Spent the majority of his season with Triple A OKC...during his time with Houston, posted a .273 average (15x55) with two HR off lefties...during his time at Triple A this year, hit .354 (35x99) with eight HR off of left-handed pitching...went 3x4, and had his first career two-homer game, while driving in three runs on Aug. 1 at MIL...vastly improved his HR/AB ratio in 2012, hitting nine HR in his 66g in 2012, as opposed to hitting five total in his 115 MLB games last year...started the season with Triple A OKC...was promoted to Houston on June 3...was optioned back down to OKC on June 19...was recalled again on July 30 and remained with the club for the remainder of the season, playing 55 games in his final stint with the Astros... played in 86 minor league games with Triple A OKC...hit .300 (93x310) with the RedHawks over the course of two stints with the club (April 5-June 2 and June 19-July 28)...recorded 57 RBI and 16 HR during that span. 2011 During two stints with Houston, appeared in a career-high 115 Major League games...made his first career Opening Day start and appeared in 101 games before being optioned to Triple A Oklahoma City on July 31...played in 14 games, three starts, after being recalled on Sept. 2...set career highs in almost every offensive category, including at-bats (336), runs (37), hits (87), doubles (22), homers (5), RBI (29), walks (36) and batting average (.259)...averaged .292 (35x120) with two home runs and nine RBI in the 7th inning or later...hit his fifth home run of the season on Sept. 24 vs. COL, snapping an 0x28 streak at the MLB level...the homer measured 448', the longest homer by an Astro at Minute Maid Park in 2011 and the fourth-longest by an Astro in stadium history... in 28 games for Oklahoma City, hit .356 (37x104) with a .437 OBP, 10 doubles, one homer & 24 RBI...hit .388 (33x85) with nine RBI in 26 games in April, which ranked as the third-highest in franchise history for the month and tied for third in the NL in 2011...finished the Spring tied for second in the Grapefruit League in RBI (18) and tied for eighth in batting average (.377)...hit .173 (9x52) with two doubles, two homers and nine RBI in 20 games for Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League. 2010 Hit .222 (32x144) with two home runs and 13 RBI in 51 games for the Astros after a midseason acquisition...2010 marked his first full season as a first baseman...despite appearing in just 51 games, led the club with seven hit by pitches...the total ranked fourth in the NL after the All-Star Break...began the year in Toronto's system at Triple A Las Vegas before being traded to Houston in exchange for OF Anthony Gose on July 29...although a separate deal, Wallace was part of the Astros-Phillies Roy Oswalt trade...Oswalt was traded for LHP J.A. Happ, IF Jonathan Villar and Gose...Gose was subsequently dealt to Toronto for Wallace...when acquired, Wallace was assigned to Triple A Round Rock but did not appear in a game...instead his contract was purchased by Houston on July 31, the same day the club traded starting first baseman Lance Berkman...posted a .301 (116x385) average with Las Vegas, while hitting 18 homers and driving in 61 RBI...named a PCL All-Star...hit .384 (43x112) against lefthanded pitchers...hit his first Major League home run on Sept. 7 at CHC off of RHP Carlos Silva in what was his 102nd MLB plate appearance...was part of an all-rookie infield on Aug. 20 at FLA along with C Jason Castro, 2B Angel Sanchez, SS Tommy Manzella and 3B Chris Johnson...made his MLB debut on July 31 vs. MIL...became the first Astro to make his MLB debut as a starting first baseman since Jeff Bagwell did so on April 8, 1991 at CIN. 2009 Overall batted .293 with 26 doubles, 20 home runs and 63 RBI over three minor league levels and 138 games... Began the season at Sprigfield (AA) in the Texas League, playing in 32 games, prior to a promotion to Memphis (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League... WELCOME TO SACRAMENTO: Was assigned to Sacramento (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League in the A's organization where he closed out his season playing in 44 games... BOMBS AWAY: Added a second multi-homer game of his season on Aug. 19, also collecting five RBI... Hit nine home runs as part of 19 extra base hits at Scaramento, and posted a multi-hit game in 16 of his 44 contests. 2008 After being drafted in the June free-agent draft, reported to Quad Citites (A) in July... Hit .327 in 41 games... Was the Midwest League Player of the Week, 7/28-8/3 after hitting .429 (12-28) with 2 HRs and nine RBI in that span... Transferred to Springfield (AA) on Aug. 19... Hit in nine straight (.400) upon arriving at Springfield and had six multi-hit games with a hit in each contest except two... Served as the DH and played 47 combined games at third base between his two stops... In the final 13 games at Springfield, hit .367 with five doubles, three homers and 11 RBI...
