Braves, Nats swap first basemen Freiman, Moore

The Braves have been encouraged by the way Freddie Freeman's wrist has responded throughout Spring Training. But to gain some more attractive insurance for this season, they sent Nate Freiman to the Nationals in exchange for Tyler Moore on Sunday.

First baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore, who has been a member of the Nationals organization since he was drafted in 2008, has been outrighted off the 40-man roster to Triple-A Syracuse, the club announced Friday night.

Tyler Michael Moore...Graduated from Northwest Rankin (MS) High School in 2005...Hit .473 with 16 homers and 65 RBI to garner Louisville Slugger All-American and Mississippi Player of the Year honors as a senior at Northwest Rankin…Attended Mississippi State University in 2008, after a twoyear stint at Meridian (MS) Community College...With MCC in 2007, earned NJCAA All-American status and was named the NJCAA Division II Baseball Player of the Year...Led Junior College ball with school-record 19 home runs in 2007... Hit a hole-in-one with a putter at the Nationals' annual Spring Training Par 3 challenge in Spring Training, 2015.

2015

Posted career highs in games played (97), at bats (187) and doubles (12)... Ranked second on the club with five hits as a pinch hitter...In 36 games started, hit .238 (30-for-126) with 10 doubles, four homers, 23 RBI, eight walks and nine runs scored...Saw action at first base (39 G), left field (20 G), right field (1 G) and as a pitcher (1 G)...Became the second Washington position player to pitch, Aug. 5 vs. Arizona...Clubbed third career pinch-hit home run, May 13 at ARI, a game-tying blast in the come-from-behind victory...Hit home runs on back-to-back days Sept. 19-20 vs. Miami...Endured his first career DL stint (left ankle sprain), Aug. 21-Sept. 3.

Was set to begin the 2014 season with Triple-A Syracuse, but was recalled to Washington on April 6 when OF Scott Hairston was placed on the 15-Day DL...Enjoyed three stints with the Nationals...Appeared in 42 games, hitting .231 with two doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI, seven walks and eight runs scored...In limited action with Washington, batted .300 (10-for-33) with runners on base and .304 (7-for-23) with RISP...Hit at least 10 minor league home runs for the fourth time in last five seasons...Hit .265 with 21 doubles, 10 home runs, 44 RBI and 45 runs scored in 84 games with Syracuse...Hit .299 (23-for-77) with four doubles, six homers, 17 RBI and 19 runs scored in 22 games for Toros del Este of the Dominican Winter League.

2013

Battled sophomore slump, was optioned to Triple-A, but closed strong (hit .344 in final 61 at-bats) after return to Nationals...when homering in 2013, Washington went 4-0...when hitting safely, the Nationals finished 18-9...capped the scoring and snapped a 4-4 tie with 9th-inning sac fly in 5-4 victory, May 4 at PIT...in pair of stints with Syracuse, hit .318 with 14 doubles, 10 home runs, 46 RBI in 45 IL contests.

2012 Was an offensive force in limited at-bats in MLB debut...blasted 10 homers in just 156 at-bats...batted .310 (22-for-71) with 7 home runs with runners on base...hit .329 on the road...when homering, Washington went 8-1...5 of 10 home runs came with 2 strikes...led Washington with 2 pinch homers...tallied 4 extra-base hits & 7 RBI in the pinch...doubled, homered twice and tallied 5 RBI in breakout performance during 6-2 victory on June 13 at TOR...the first of the 2 home runs, a 4th-inning 2-run shot off Kyle Drabek, was first longball of MLB career...became the 3rd National to hit first 2 big league home runs in the same game, joining Roger Bernadina (May 12, 2010 at NYM) and Brandon Harper (Aug. 20, 2006 at PHI)...with Washington trailing 2-1, hit game-winning 2-run pinch homer off R.A. Dickey in 7th inning of 5-3 victory on Sept. 11 at NYM....2-run opposite-field single with 2 outs in the 8th inning erased 2-1 deficit and lifted the Nationals to a 3-2 victory in Game 1 of the NLDS at STL...opened '12 with Syracuse and hit .307 with 16 extra-base hits, including 9 homers, and 26 RBI in 29 games...entered '12 rated as the Nationals' No. 16 prospect per Baseball America. 2011 Hit .271 with 35 doubles, 31 home runs and 90 RBI in 137 games with Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League ... led Eastern League in home runs, RBI and total bases (276) en route to mid-season and post-season All-Star honors ... began 2011 season rated the No. 24 prospect in Washington chain, according to Baseball America. 2010 Named Nationals Minor League Player of the Year and Carolina League MVP thanks to 43 doubles, 31 home runs, 111 RBI and 78 runs scored in 129 games with Single-A Potomac ... led the Carolina League in nearly every offensive category, including doubles, home runs, RBI, extra-base hits (77), total bases (277) and slugging percentage (.552) ... seven extra-base hits tied for second-most in Minor League baseball. 2009 Led Washington's system with 87 RBI in first full season as a professional ... hit .305, 12 doubles, five home runs, 29 RBI to earn Single-A Hagerstown Player of the Month honors in June. 2008 Hit six homers in 71 games with Vermont of the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League in professional debut.
