Victor Laurence (Vic) Black graduated from Amarillo (TX) High School in 2006. Played baseball at Dallas Baptist University where he went 6-4 with 99 strikeouts in 88.2 innings as a junior in 2009 ... Struck out 246 batters in 245 career collegiate innings. Is the highest drafted player in Dallas Baptist baseball history...Alma mater also produced Ben Zobrist, Jason LaRue and Freddy Sanchez. Selected by the Mets in the 41st round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign.

Was on the Disabled List from August 24-September 8 with a herniated disc in his neck...Made two appearances after returning from the DL before he was shut down for the year with a strain in his right rotator cuff...Began the year at Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League...Was the 26th man for a doubleheader on May 25...Was recalled on May 27...Stranded 23 straight inherited runners to end the year...On the year he stranded 25 of 26 inherited runners (96 percent), the best percentage in the majors (minimum 15 inherited runners)...Opponents were 0-7 with the bases loaded...The opposition hit .128 (5-39) with runners in scoring position, including .056 (1-18) with RISP in late-inning pressure situations - after the 7th inning when tied or leading by three or fewer...Righthanders were 15-73 (.205) while lefties hit .208 (11-53) off him...Went 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA (three earned runs/18.1 innings) in 21 games at Citi Field...Allowed one run over 12.1 innings (0.73 ERA) from May 27-June 15...Pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and stranded two runners to earn his first win of the year in his first outing of the year on May 27 vs. Pittsburgh (his former team)...Also picked up a win on July 12 vs. Miami...Lost his first major league game on June 5 at Chicago (NL)...Allowed a home run to Anthony Rizzo...Had started his career 4-0...Posted a 1.46 ERA (two earned runs/12.1 innings) over 17 games from June 30-August 9.

Acquired from Pittsburgh on August 27 along with minor league infielder Dilson Herrera, in exchange for catcher John Buck and outfielder Marlon Byrd. Pitched in three games with the Pirates, posting a 4.50 ERA (2 earned runs/4.0 innings) without a decision...Also was 5-3 with 17 saves and a 2.51 ERA (13 earned runs/46.2 innings) in 53 games with Indianapolis (AAA) of the International League ... Had 63 strikeouts. Made his major league debut on July 25 with the Pirates with 0.1 inning of work at Washington. Collected his first major league win on September 15 vs. Miami in a 1-0, 12-inning victory...Hurled 1.0 perfect inning...Also picked up wins on September 18 vs. San Francisco and September 29 vs. Milwaukee. His three-game winning streak was the longest by a Mets rookie reliever since Hisanori Takahashi had two, three-game winning streaks in 2010. Notched his first major league save on September 24 at Cincinnati, a 4-2 win .. Struck out two over a perfect inning of work. Lefties were 5-27 (.185) against him and he held opponents to 2-13 (.154) with runners in scoring position and two outs. Posted a 2.25 ERA (two earned runs/8.0 innings) over his final nine contests dating back to September 13...Was unscored upon in 11 of his final 15 appearances. Has 217 strikeouts in 178.1 innings in five minor league seasons.

Was named to the "Rising Stars" Game and faced two batters (0.1ip/0h/0r/1bb/0so). 2011 Went 3-1 with one save and a 5.50 ERA (35.2ip/20er) in 27 relief appearances - his first season used exclusively in relief...
