Set career highs in appearances (64), SO (45), and IP (47.2) in 2nd season with the Red Sox... Also tied his career best in wins (2). Made 1st career Opening Day roster...Finished an 8-0 win with a scoreless 9th inning on Opening Day, 4/6 at PHI. Allowed no runs in 48 of his 64 games (75%). Held lefties to a .148 AVG (13-for-88), 4th lowest in the AL (min. 85 BF)...Led AL pitchers with a .170 SLG against left-handed batters (2nd in MLB) and a .418 OPS against lefties (3rd in MLB). 2012 Acquired by the Padres in May and saw his first Big League action with the club, appearing in 26 Major League games total. Played in five games, four starts, for Triple-A Reno in the D-backs organization before being acquired by the Padres. Made five starts for Triple-A Tucson after being acquired, going 0-3 with a 7.77 ERA(19 ER/22.0 IP) from 5/5-25. After appearing in his first three games, two starts, for Double-A San Antonio from 6/1-11, converted to a reliever and went on to post a 1.31 ERA (3 ER/20.2 IP) with 27 strikeouts against just 17 hits allowed and 10 walks in 29 relief appearances for the Missions from 6/15-8/13, before his Major League call-up. Selected from Double-A San Antonio on 8/14 and made his Major League debut that day at ATL, striking out all three batters faced for a scoreless inning of work. Did not allow a run over his first 11 appearances and 8.2 innings pitched from 8/14-31, striking out 14 batters while allowing just two hits and one walk over that stretch. Earned his first career save in his first opportunity on 8/22 vs. PIT, saving the game for LHP Andrew Werner's first career victory, who made his Major League debut with a start that day.
