Josh enjoys hunting, fishing and poker...he hunts and fishes often on a 900-acre plot of land in Kentucky, owned by a friend, and hopes to take a trip next offseason to Idaho, Wyoming or Montana...Majored in computer science in college...would be a computer programmer if he were not playing baseball.

2013

Split the season between the majors and Triple-A Durham…appeared in 19 games over four stints with the Rays, posting a 5.06 ERA (21.1-IP, 12-ER)…combining the majors and minors, worked 59 games and 78.2 IP, both career highs... Began the year with Durham and was recalled May 10…compiled a 3.72 ERA (9.2-IP, 4-ER) in 9 games during his first stint and was optioned June 1…had brief stints in June and August…returned to the majors on Aug 31 as rosters expanded and pitched in 5 games in September... Had a 1.86 ERA (9.2-IP, 2-ER) in 8 games at Tropicana Field…on the road, had a 7.71 ERA (11.2-IP, 10-ER) in 11 games…owns a career 3.73 ERA (31.1-IP, 13-ER) at home and 9.69 ERA (26-IP, 28-ER) on the road... In 40 games for Durham, maintained a 0.63 ERA (57.1-IP, 4-ER) and went 17-for-18 in save opps…tied for 5th in the International League in saves, but ranked 2nd on the team behind Kirby Yates (20)…opposing hitters batted only .196 avg. (41-for-209) with 1 HR…recorded 81 SO against only 15 BB... All but 5 of his 40 apps for Durham were scoreless…compiled a streak of 26.2 consecutive scoreless innings (and 16 straight scoreless apps) from April 26-July 12... In 2012 made 3 appearances for the Rays over three stints…made his first Opening Day roster with RH Kyle Farnsworth on the disabled list…spent the remainder of the season with Durham... Made his Rays debut on April 7 vs. NYY, entering an 8-3 game in the 8th inning…surrendered 3 R/ER in 1.1 IP…optioned to Durham on April 14, recalled May 15 and optioned May 19…recalled July 31 and optioned Aug 2... Recorded 71 SO and 17 BB for Durham in 67.2 IP…beginning June 25, he totaled 42 SO and only 4 BB.

2011 Saw his first action in the major leagues...made the Mariners Opening Day roster and made 25 relief apps over two stints with Seattle...Was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on April 24... made 8 apps in his first stint, going 1-1 with 17.05 ERA (6.1-IP, 12-ER)...was recalled from Tacoma on July 21 and remained in the majors through season's end, compiling a 3.42 ERA (26.1-IP, 10-ER) in 17 apps with 21 SO and 7 BB...Tossed at least 2 innings in 7 of his final 10 apps, beginning Aug 16...posted a 2.12 ERA (17-IP, 4-ER) when tossing at least 2 innings... did not allow a run over his last 7.2 innings (4 games) and did not allow a run in 7 of his last 8 apps...Made his major league debut on April 3 at OAK...struck out the first batter he faced (Cliff Pennington) but totaled 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R/ER, 2 BB, 2 SO...Recorded his first major league win April 11 vs. TOR with a perfect 9th inning in the Mariners 8-7 comeback win after trailing 7-0...Held opposing left-handed hitters to a .220 avg. Ranked 7th among minor league relievers with 13.43 K/9.0 IP (94 SO, 63.0 IP). ... Started the season at Hickory (A), going 2-1, 10 saves, 0.46 ERA (1 ER, 19.2 IP) before being promoted to Frisco (AA). ... Made 15 appearances for Frisco in the Texas League (1-1, 2 SV, 3.86 ERA). ... Acquired by Seattle in a 6-player trade for Cliff Lee (lhp) and Mark Lowe (rhp) on July 9, 2010...reported to West Tenn (AA) in the Southern League. ...
