The Rangers added to their catching depth by signing Cameron Rupp to a Minor League contract. He has been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Phillies designate veteran Rupp for assignment

The Phillies selected the contract of right-hander Drew Hutchison, who will open the season either in the bullpen or as the No. 5 starter, early on Sunday morning. To make room for Hutchison on the 40-man roster, the Phillies designated Cameron Rupp for assignment. The Phillies have seven days to trade, release or outright Rupp to the Minor Leagues.

Cameron Arthur Rupp… He and his girlfriend, Britny Pittman, have two daughters: Blakely Rhys (11/16/10) and Peri Grey (1/29/18)… 2007 graduate of Prestonwood Christian Academy (TX)… Attended the University of Texas… Named a First-Team Freshman All-American in 2008 and was selected to the 2009 College World Series All-Tournament team… His father, Kevin, pitched 3 years (1977-79) in the Montreal Expos minor league system… Signed by: Steve Cohen.

Made 83 starts, all at catcher... 31 of his 64 hits (48.4%) went for extra bases (17 2B and 14 HR)...
