Brandon Carlin Workman. Signed by Jim Robinson (Red Sox). Married to Taylor. Graduated from Bowie (TX) High School in 2007. Went 12-2 with a 3.35 ERA as a junior for the University of Texas in 2010...Led the Big 12 Conference in wins and ranked among conference leaders in IP (4th, 104.2), SO (5th, 101), ERA (9th), and opponent AVG (9th, .247)... Pitched in the 2009 College World Series against LSU. Rated by Baseball America as the No. 8 right-hander available in the 2010 June Draft. Was selected by Philadelphia in the 3rd round of the 2007 June Draft but did not sign.

2015

Missed entire season due to right elbow injury...Underwent successful Tommy John surgery on 6/15, performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, FL. Optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on 4/3 to begin the year, but had option reversed and was instead placed on the 15-day DL with a right elbow strain beginning 4/3. On 6/3, was transferred to the 60-day DL with a partially torn right elbow ligament.

2014

Spent the majority of the season with the Red Sox, making 19 appearances (15 starts) over 4 ML stints...Also made 11 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket...Made his 1st career Opening Day roster and pitched 3 times out of the bullpen (1.42 ERA, 1 ER/6.1 IP) before being optioned to the PawSox...Rejoined the Red Sox on 5/25 and moved into the rotation, starting that day at TB...Posted a 3.21 ERA (10 ER/28.0 IP) in his first 5 starts through 6/15...Ejected for the 1st time in his career on 5/30 vs. TB for throwing behind Evan Longoria after warnings were issued...Was suspended by MLB for 6 games...Earned the win in a 1-0 victory on 6/10 at BAL, limiting the Orioles to 1 hit over 6.2 scoreless innings...Held opponents to 3 runs or less and pitched at least 5.0 innings in the first 8 starts of his career through 6/15...It marked the 2nd-longest such streak to begin a Red Sox career behind Boo Ferriss, who did it in 9 consecutive starts to begin his career in 1945...Ended the season on a 10-game losing streak that began on 6/27 and spanned 10 starts and 1 relief outing, including 3 shutout losses...Dropped 8 straight appearances (7 starts) from 6/27-8/23...The Red Sox scored only 18 runs while he was in the game over the 10-game streak...Left with a lead in his last 2 no-decisions, 6/15 vs. CLE (was ahead 2-1) and 9/4 at NYY (was ahead 4-3)...Went 7-1 with a 4.11 ERA (28 ER/61.1 IP) for Pawtucket, earning the win in each of his last 6 Triple-A starts beginning on 5/12.

Split the 1st half of his season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket before being added to the Red Sox ML roster in July...Appeared in 20 games, including 3 starts, with BOS. Finished with 6 wins, T-5th most among all AL rookie pitchers...His 5 relief wins were the 3rd-most among all AL rookie relievers (T-5th in MLB). Averaged 10.15 SO/9.0 IP (47 SO/41.2 IP) with the Sox, the 4th best rate among AL rookie hurlers who threw at least 20.0 innings. Pitched more than 1.0 inning in 8 of his 17 relief appearances for BOS, and 2.0 or more innings 4 times. Selected to the active ML roster by BOS on 7/9...Made ML debut in relief on the next day, 7/10 at SEA (ND, 2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 SO). Made next 3 appearances out of the Red Sox rotation from 7/14-30, and went 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA (5 ER/18.1 IP)...Pitched at least 6.0 innings and allowed 2 runs or fewer in each outing to become the 1st Red Sox pitcher to do so in his 1st 3 ML starts since 1976 (Rick Jones). Named the Red Sox Pitcher of the Year after going 10-8 with a 3.50 ERA (54 ER/138.2 IP) and 130 strikeouts in 25 starts between High-A Salem and Double A-Portland. Ranked among organizational minor league leaders in SO (T-2nd) and wins (4th). Placed among Carolina League qualifiers in ERA (4th, 3.40), WHIP (2nd, 1.09), opponent AVG (2nd, .244), SO/9.0 innings (2nd, 8.47), BB/9.0 innings (2nd, 1.58) and fewest base runners per 9.0 innings (1st, 9.90). Named Pitcher of the Week in the CL for 4/23-29 after tossing a 6.0-inning, 3-hit shutout in a start on 4/27 Went 3-1 with a 1.20 ERA (4 ER/30.0 IP) over 5 starts from 5/31-6/24, the 2nd-lowest ERA in the CL in that span. Recorded a season-high 10 SO on 7/16 at Frederick. Was promoted to Portland on 8/8 and won each of his 1st 3 starts with the Sea Dogs, allowing just 3 runs over 18.0 innings (1.50 ERA) with 15 SO. Following the season, rated by Baseball America as having the best curveball and best control in the Red Sox system.

Made professional debut with Single-A Greenville. Ranked 2nd on the Drive and 13th among South Atlantic League qualifiers with a 3.71 ERA (54 ER/131.0 IP). Also placed among club leaders in starts (2nd, 26), IP (3rd, 131.0), and SO (2nd, 115) Went 1-0 with a 2.67 ERA (9 ER/30.1 IP) and 27 SO in 6 starts in May Earned 1st career win on 5/29 vs. Asheville Landed on the DL on 6/20 and fanned a season-high 9 batters in his 1st start back on 7/2 vs. Hickory.
