Esmailin was signed by the Cubs prior to the start of the 2008 season and begins his fifth year in the organization...after
starting the 2008 campaign in Single-A, he had stints in the majors in both 2009 and 2010...Pitched exclusively in the minors in 2011, missing over two months due
to a right forearm strain...Is 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA (8 ER/23.1 IP) in 22 relief appearances for
Chicago, spanning the 2009-10 campaigns...Prior to the Cubs, Esmailin spent the 2007 campaign in the Hiroshima
Carp organization of the Japanese League...Participated in the 2010 Cubs Caravan.
Esmailin spent the season in the minors, splitting time between Triple-A Iowa and Double-A Tennessee...was on the shelf, July
5-September 22, with a right forearm strain...combined to go 3-2 with an 8.02 ERA (41 ER/46.0 IP) in 31 relief outings...Began the campaign with the I-Cubs, posting a 3-2 record and an 8.27
ERA (34 ER/37.0 IP) in 26 relief outings...recorded four saves...Transferred to Tennessee, June 23...Appeared in just five contests for the Smokies, recording a 7.00 ERA
(7 ER/9.0 IP)...walked two and struck out 10...Outrighted to Iowa, November 18.
Right arm issues limited Esmailin to just eight big league relief appearances and 10 minor league outings ... he was twice on
the disabled list, including April 12-May 8 with a right forearm strain and May 19-September 18 with a right elbow strain.

Had two stints at the major league level: August 10-25 and September 6 through the end of the season... Shut out the opponent in 12 of his 14 outings, including his final 11... Did not allow a run to score at Wrigley Field, spanning eight outings and 7.1 innings pitched... Struck out 17 and walked just three in his 14 major league outings... Did not allow a run to score during his second stint with the Cubs, ending the season riding a 12.0-inning scoreless streak... Limited the opponent to a .221 batting average (15-for-68), including a .194 mark (6-for-31) against left-handed hitters... Earned his first career win September 20 at St. Louis, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings (2 SO)... Was selected from Triple-A Iowa August 10, making his major league debut that night...tossed 5.1 relief innings at Colorado, yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk, while fanning four... Esmailin made 28 appearances (27 starts), between Single-A Daytona and Double-A Tennessee, amassing a 13-7 mark with a 3.73 ERA (63 ER/152.0 IP)...After starting the year 2-2 with a 6.20 ERA (17 ER/24.2 IP) in six games (five starts) with Daytona, went 4-2 with a 3.43 ERA (17 ER/44.2 IP) in his final eight starts to earn his promotion to Tennessee June 17... Went 7-3 with a 3.16 ERA (29 ER/82.2 IP) in 14 start at Tennessee... Went 3-0 over his final four starts, yielding just four earned runs over his final 25.0 innings pitched (1.44 ERA)... Was 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA (7 ER/16.0 IP) in 10 games for Mesa in the Arizona Fall League ... struck out 17 and walked just five.
Spent the majority of the season with the Hiroshima Carp's Dominican Academy, making a brief appearance with the Japanese League club ... had two outings with the big league club, tossing a total of 0.2 innings.
