Grew up in Trenton, MI, which is a suburb of Detroit, and graduated from Trenton High School in 2005...went 10-3 with a 1.51 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched as a senior...selected to the all-region, all-district, all-conference, All-Downriver Dream Team and all-metro teams in 2005. Attended Wayne State University in Detroit from 2006-2008...had a spectacular junior season, making 14 appearances (12 starts) and going 10-3 with a 2.10 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 85.2 innings ... tied the singleseason school record for victories and totaled the fourth-most strikeouts and fifth-most innings in WSU history...had seven complete games and two shutouts... voted the WSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year and named to the Rawlings/ABCA All-America First Team and the NCBWA All- America Third Team. Selected in the fifth round of the June 2008 draft by San Diego...signed by Padres scout Jeff Stewart. Acquired by Houston at the 2013 Winter Meetings...on Dec. 11, the Astros acquired Bass and a PTBNL or cash from San Diego in exchange for a PTBNL or cash...the following day, Houston completed the trade by sending LHP Patrick Schuster, who was selected by the Astros with the first pick in the 2013 Rule 5 Draft, to San Diego in exchange for cash considerations. Originally added to a Major League 40-man roster on June 13, 2011...is currently signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2014 season.

2014

Acquired by Houston in a trade with San Diego at the 2013 Winter Meetings, Bass made the Astros Opening Day roster and went 1-1 with a 6.33 ERA (19 ER/27.0 IP) in 21 relief outings...was on the disabled list from 5/11-7/1 with a right intercostal strain...had 7 K's and 7 BB in 27.0 innings, as his 2.33 SO per 9 innings was lowest ratio among all MLB pitchers with 25.0+ IP...had a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) over first 8 outings through 4/22, then had a 9.00 (16 ER/16.0 IP) figure in final 13 appearances spanning DL stint (6 HR allowed in that span) to finish at 6.33...lone win was 5/2 vs. SEA, tossing final 2.0 frames of 5-4, 11-inning walk-off win in game against M's starter Felix Hernandez...gave up grand slam to Brandon Moss in final Astros outing on 7/24 at OAK and was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City for duration of season after that game...was 2-for-4 in save chances...first batters hit .158 (3-19) with a walk and hit by pitch...allowed 6 of 18 (33.3%) inherited runners to score. Did not allow an earned run in 3 games/4.0 innings with Quad Cities (A) during June rehab assignment, and was 0-2, 3.31 (6 ER/16.1 IP) in 14 relief outings for Oklahoma City to end the year...had 1.69 ERA (3 ER/16.0 IP) over first 13 outings for OKC, then permitted 3 ER while recording one out in final appearance Aug. 31 at Iowa...made Astros after posting 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) with 2 saves, 14 K's, and no walks in 7 spring outings.

2013

Posted a 5.36 ERA (25ER/42IP) with 31 strikeouts in 24 relief appearances with the Padres over four stints with the club after being on the Opening Day roster ... had a 2.60 ERA (8ER/27.2IP) with 19 strikeouts in his first 15 appearances, but a 10.67 ERA (17ER/14.1IP) with 12 strikeouts over his final nine outings ... posted a 3.24 ERA (6ER/16.2IP) in 10 home appearances and a 6.75 ERA (19ER/25.1 IP) in 14 road outings...tossed at least 1.1 innings in 21 of his 24 relief appearances and at least 2.0 frames in 12 of his 24 games...posted a 3.29 ERA (15ER/41IP) with 24 strikeouts in the second half for Tucson after posting a 7.75 ERA (33ER/38.1IP) with 36 strikeouts in eight starts in the first half.

2012 Made his first career Opening Day roster, appearing in 24 games with 15 starts for the Padres, missing time due to a stint on the disabled list. Began the season in the bullpen, making two relief appearances in the first week of the season before making his first start of the season on 4/12 vs.ARI. Went 1-2 with a 2.31 ERA(6ER/23.1 IP) over his first four starts, all in April. Landed on the 15-day DL on6/24 with right shoulder inflammation, remaining on the DL until 9/4...transferred to 60-Day DL on 7/31. Made three rehab starts for Triple-A Tucson from 8/23-9/2 before being reinstated from the DL. Returned from the DL on 9/4 to join the bullpen, making seven relief appearances from 9/7-28, posting a 2.79 ERA (3 ER/9.2 IP) in that stretch. Earned his first career save in his first career opportunity on 9/20 at ARI, striking out his only batter faced to end the game. Posted a 1-1 record with a 3.52 ERA (15 ER/38.1 IP) in seven starts at Petco Park in 2012, with the Padres 3-4 in those starts. Posted a 2.63 ERA(4 ER/13.2 IP) in nine total relief outings overall in 2012. Had the first complete game of his career on 4/28 at SF, taking the loss after working 8.0 innings of two-run ball... took a perfect game into the sixth inning of that start before allowing the first hit of the game to opposing pitcher Tim Lincecum, an infield single. At the plate, collected his first Major League hit on 5/4 vs. MIA, a bases-clearing triple...became the first player in Padre history to hit a three-run triple for his first Major League hit (ELIAS)...just the second Padres pitcher ever to hit a three-run triple, with the only other by Pete Smith on 8/24/97 at NYM. 2011 Split his season between Double-A San Antonio, Triple-A Tucson and the Padres, seeing his first Major League action ... Had his contract selected from San Antonio on 6/13 and made his Major League debut that day, starting against the Rockies and picking up the win...optioned back to San Antonio the following day...recalled 6/26 and spent the rest of the year with San Diego ... During his second stint, made 24 appearances out of the bullpen before finishing the season with two starts ... Went 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA (2 ER/15.0 IP) in his three starts and 0-0 with a 1.89 ERA (7 ER/33.1 IP) in 24 games out of the bullpen ...
