Left-handed starter enters the 2015 season with a 42-37 career minor league record with a 4.42 ERA (336ER/683.2IP)...has recorded 653 strikeouts in his 683.2 career innings pitched.

 

Has been one of the top strikeout collectors in Houston's system...is the only pitcher in the Astros organization to reach 100 strikeouts in each of the last four seasons (2011-14)...has recorded 505 strikeouts in 505.2 innings pitched over that span.

 

In 2014, spent the majority of the season at Double A Corpus Christi (21g) but reached the Triple A level for the first time in his career (5g)...while with Corpus Christi, fashioned a 7-6 record and 3.14 ERA (35ER/100.1IP) with 92 strikeouts.

 

Struck out seven consecutive batters in a one-hit, nine-strikeout, 6.1-inning performance on May 19, 2014, vs. Midland...despite entering the game as the top offensive team in the Texas League, the RockHounds were held scoreless by Cruz over his 6.1 innings.

 

In 2013 with Class A Advanced Lancaster and Double A Corpus Christi, led all Astros minor leaguers with 150 strikeouts in his 130.1 innings pitched...made just four appearances (two starts) with the Hooks, but was dominant in limited action...allowed just one run in 17.0 innings (0.53 ERA) while striking out 21 at the Double A level...earned Texas League Player of the Week honors for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 3 after tossing a two-hit, 14-strikeout complete game shutout on Aug. 26 at San Antonio.

 

On May 12, 2013, vs. Stockton, combined with LHP Kyle Hallock to throw a no-hitter...pitched the final 4.0 innings, striking out four with one walk...marked the second no-hitter in the California League in six years, and the first since five Lancaster pitchers combined for a 10-inning no-hitter on Aug. 25, 2010.

 

His strikeout numbers spiked in 2012 with Class A Lexington, where his 135 strikeouts led the club and ranked third in the South Atlantic League.

 

Entering his second professional campaign in 2009, was ranked by Baseball America as the Astros No. 30 prospect.

 

Graduated from Acadamia Santa Monica High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2008...was selected by Houston in the ninth round of the June 2008 draft...signed by Astros scout Joey Sola.

 

Added to the Astros 40-man roster on Nov. 21, 2013...signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2015 season.
