James Thomas Darnell III...resides in San Diego, Calif., with his wife Amy...graduate of San Ramon Valley (CA) High School...attended the University of South Carolina...signed by Padres' scout Anthony Byrd.

Appeared in 15 games with Triple-A Tucson (Padres)…hit .246 (15-for-61) with Tucson before he was designated for assigment and released in June…at the time of his release, was sidelined for the remainder of the season with a left shoulder injury.

2012 Began the season with Triple-A Tucson and played in just seven games for San Diego, landing on the 15-day DL on 5/18 with a left shoulder subluxation and missing the remainder of the season. Started the season with Triple-A Tucson, hitting .267 (31-for-116) with six doubles, seven home runs, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored in 31 games played. Recalled from Tucson on 5/11 before being placed on the 15-day DL on 5/18...transferred to the 60-day DL on 5/28. Underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on 8/29. Hit his lone homer for San Diego in 2012, and second of his career, on 5/15 at WSH off Nationals' pitcher Stephen Strasburg. Made four starts total for San Diego, three in LF and one at 3B. 2011 Saw his first Major League action following sucess at both Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tuscon...appeared in 18 games for the Padres. ... Selected from Tucson on 8/8 and made Major League debut 8/9, starting at third base at NYM...collected his first Big League hit 8/10 at NYM ... Optioned back to Tucson 8/26 and was recalled 9/4, spending the rest of the season with San Diego...connected for his first homer 9/10 at ARI (off Wade Miley) ... During his time in the minors, he was named to the Texas League Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star teams...also selected to the United States roster for the 2011 Futures Game, starting as designated hitter. 2010 Combined, hit .271 (108-for-398) with 25 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 58 RBI, 51 runs scored and 49 walks over 108 games...Played all but seven of his 108 games at Double-A San Antonio, where he hit .265 (99-for-373) with 21 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 50 RBI...hit .360 in seven games with Single-A Fort Wayne, going 9-for-25 with four doubles, a homer and eight RBI...Was on the disabled list (finger) from 5/12-6/9...roster transferred to Fort Wayne on 6/9 before returning to the Missions on 6/17...Hit .311 (56-for-180) with 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 30 RBI over 44 road games for San Antonio...batted .349 (37-for-106) with nine doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI in the month of August...batted .307 (43-for-140)...After batting .215 (31-for-144) the first half of the season for the Missions, hit .297 (68-for-229) with 13 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 38 RBI over the second. 2009 Split the season between Padres Single-A affiliates in Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore, appearing in a combined 126 games...Named the Padres Minor League Player of the Year for 2009...Entered the season ranked as the No. 10 prospect in the Padres organization by Baseball America...also recognized as the best athlete in the organization in Baseball Americafs 2009 Best Tools survey prior to the season...Hit .329 with a .468 on-base percentage in 66 games at Fort Wayne before earning a promotion to Lake Elsinore...hit safely in 43 of his 60 games with the TinCaps, including 21 multi-hit efforts...Tallied three consecutive three-hit games 5/29-31...finished his time with Fort Wayne by hitting safely in eight of his final nine games with seven multi-hit performances (6/11-21)...hit at a .514 clip over the stretch, lifting his average from .294 to .329...Made his Lake Elsinore debut 6/27 and went 0-for-4...went 4-for-7 the following day...Recorded a 13-game hitting streak with the Storm (7/27-8/9)...part of a stretch during which he hit safely in 18 of 19 contests...Following the season he was named by Baseball America to the Second Team All-Minor Leagues and to the Midwest League All-Star team. 2008 Made his professional debut for Single-A Eugene, hitting .373 in just 16 games...Hit .463 (12-for-26) with four doubles, a home run and 14 RBI with runners in scoring position and .412 (5-for-12) with a double and five RBI with the bases loaded...Batted .420 off right-handed pitching.
