Attended Second Baptist High School in Houston, TX, where he was a first-team TAPPS 4-5A member for three seasons (2006-08) and a two-time first-team allstate honoree...posted a 1.34 ERA with 110 strikeouts in 68.0 innings of work in his senior year. ... Following the season, was named a member of the Texas Area Code Team, earned All- Area Code honors and was a Texas Area Scouts Association All-Star...ranked 28th on Baseball America's draft rankings before being selected by Houston in the supplemental third round of the June 2008 draft...signed by Astros scouts Rusty Pendergrass and Mike Burns. ...
