In 2017 became only the third catcher in Reds history to win a Rawlings Gold Glove Award for defensive excellence, joining Johnny Edwards (1963, 1964) and 10-time winner Johnny Bench (1968-1977)...holds the franchise single-season record for highest fielding percentage by a catcher (.999, 2017) and shares with Brayan Pena (2015) the club mark for fewest errors in a season by a catcher (1e, 953tc, 2017)...from 2011-2014, for 4 straight seasons was rated by Baseball America the best defensive catcher in the organization...following the 2011 season received Minor League Baseball's prestigious Rawlings Gold Glove Award for catchers...in 2016 won the Joe Nuxhall Good Guy Award in voting of the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America...was on the Reds' Opening Day rosters in 2014, 2016 and 2017...in 2013 was a mid-season Southern League All-Star...in 2012 was rated by California League managers the best defensive catcher in the CL...was the Reds' Minor League Player of the Month for June 2012...graduated from Brownsburg (IN) High School, where as a freshman and sophomore he caught 2017 Reds teammate Drew Storen's junior and senior seasons.

Won the Joe Nuxhall Good Guy Award in voting of the local chapter of the BBWAA...in May became the Reds' starting catcher following Devin Mesoraco's season-ending shoulder injury and established career highs in almost every statistical category...hit .355 with RISP (33-93), second-highest on the club to Joey Votto (.356)...in his last 63 apps of the season beginning 6/24 hit .273 (57-209, 15 2b, 5hr, 41rbi), raising his BA from .238 to season-ending .257 and including a career-high 12-game hitting streak (7/31-8/16)...hit .271 batting lefthanded (5hr, 44rbi) and .207 batting righthanded (2hr, 7rbi)...started Brandon Finnegan's complete game on 5/23 at LAD and 5 of the team's 8 shutouts...Reds pitchers went 46-60 in his starts and posted a 5.04 ERA while he caught...threw out 24-68 baserunners attempting to steal (27%)...from 7/15-7/29, made 9 starts behind the plate in which Reds pitchers went 9-0, 2.00...his RBI-single off Christian Bergman in the ninth inning of the 6-5 win on 4/20 vs Col was the first walkoff hit of his career and 1 of 6 walkoff hits by the Reds...with 2 outs in the seventh inning of the 3-2 win on 5/9 vs Pit, hit his first professional home run as a righthanded batter to snap the 2-2 tie (off Jonathan Niese)...in the 5-3 win on 7/6 at Cubs, his 3-run HR in the seventh inning off Trevor Cahill erased a 3-1 deficit and gave the Reds a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish...was his first career home run with a runner on base...in the 6-3 win on 8/15 vs Mia hit his first Major League grand slam (Jose Urena) and produced a career-high 4 RBI...on 7/2 at Wsh recorded his first career stolen base...from 8/26-8/31 missed 6g with a chip fracture, right middle finger.

In his second Major League season made 67 starts behind the plate, second on the club to Brayan Pena's 84 starts...Reds pitchers went 25-42 in his starts and posted a 4.91era while he caught...threw out 14-50 baserunners attempting to steal (28%)... caught Mike Leake's complete game on 4/19 at StL (2-1 loss) and caught 5 of the team's 8 shutouts...hit .269 vs RHP...began the season at Louisville...was promoted on 4/17, when Kyle Skipworth was optioned and following the hip injury to Devin Mesoraco...spent the rest of the season in Cin...from 4/29-5/16 hit .368 during a career-high 7-game hitting streak (2hr, 3rbi)...in the 10th inning on 7/19 vs Cle pinch hit and then played RF, his first professional appearance at a position other than catcher and the first outfield appearance of his life...in the makeup game on 9/28 at Wsh singled with 1 out in the eighth inning to break up Max Scherzer's no-hitter.

2014

Made his first Opening Day roster when Devin Mesoraco began the season the disabled list...spent most of the season at Class AAA Louisville but in his Major League debut made 21 apps and 14 starts behind the plate in his 5 stints with the Reds (Opening Day-4/6, 4/26-5/17, 7/6-7/10, 8/9-8/17, 9/2-end of season)...while with the Bats threw out 35 percent of the baserunners attempting to steal (26-75), fourth-best in the International League, and picked off 5 runners...for the Reds threw out the last 5 runners attempting to steal and 8-11 overall...made his Major League debut in a start on 4/3 vs StL and threw out John Jay trying to steal third base...in his second start, on 4/5 at NYM, singled twice off Dillon Gee for his first career hits...in the fifth inning of the 8-3 win on 5/1 vs Mil tied the score at 2-2 with his first Major League home run (solo off Marco Estrada)...during spring training wore uniform number 68.

2013

Spent the season at Class AA Pensacola, where he was a mid-season Southern League All-Star...ranked T2nd on the club in doubles and third in RBI...the first week of July was disabled with a strained left hamstring...following the season played for Glendale in the prestigious Arizona Fall League (16g, .245, 3 2b, 2rbi)...on 11/20 was added to the 40-man roster.

2012 Made 59 apps at Class A Bakersfield and in his Class AA debut played in 41g at Pensacola...was rated by California League managers the best defensive catcher in the CL...while at Bakersfield was the organization's Minor League Player of the Month for June (19g, .382, 3hr, 12rbi, 1.057ops). 2011 Spent the season at Class A Dayton...received Minor League Baseball's prestigious Rawlings Gold Glove Award and was rated by Baseball America the best defensive catcher in the organization...committed just 2 errors...from 5/13-5/31 hit .395 during a season-high 13-game hitting streak...hit his first 3 professional home runs, on 5/7 at West Michigan off Kevin Eichhorn, 6/30 vs Bowling Green off Eliazer Suero and 8/26 at Great Lakes off Tim Sexton. 2010 Hit .305 in 35 apps for rookie Billings in the Pioneer League 2009 Began his professional career with Sarasota in the rookie Gulf Coast League.
