David Freitas...graduated from Elk Grove (CA) High School in 2007...led his team to section championships from 2005-07...attended Cosumnes River College (Sacramento, CA) where he was a Junior College All-American at catcher...transferred to the University of Hawaii after two years. 2012 Spent most of the season with Single-A Potomac in the Washington organization where he batted .271 with five home runs and 46 RBI in 78 games...was traded to the A's in August for Kurt Suzuki and was assigned to Double-A Midland...hit .333 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 20 games with the RockHounds for a .283 average in 98 games overall...was named to the Carolina League Midseason All-Star team...batted .292 (21-for-72) against left-handed pitching compared to .280 (74-for-264) against right-handers...slugged all seven of his home runs and drove in 50 of his 57 runs against righties...hit .327 with runners in scoring position...had a .386 batting average in the eighth inning or later...hit .329 with five of his seven home runs in the sixth inning or later...appeared in 93 games at catcher and one at first base...also went 2-for-7 (.286) in two games as the designated hitter and was 0-for-2 as a pinch hitter...tossed out 32-of-109 (29.4%) attempted base stealers...compiled a .996 fielding percentage with Potomac, which was the best mark among Carolina League catchers...saw most of his action batting clean-up with 77 games, including 75 of his 78 games with Potomac...hit in every spot in the order except first and third. 2011 Batted .288 with 13 home runs and 73 RBI in 123 games with Single-A Hagerstown in his first full professional season...added 82 walks and was hit by a pitch six times for a .409 on-base percentage...led the South Atlantic League in walks and ranked second in on-base percentage...was a SAL Midseason All-Star...led the Suns in RBI and walks and tied for the team-lead in doubles (30)...hit .316 against right-handed pitching compared to .214 against left-handers...however, had six home runs in 117 at bats against lefties (1 per 19.5 at bats) compared to seven in 310 at bats against righties (1 per 44.3 at bats)...also batted .338 during the day, .327 at home, .318 when leading off an inning and .303 with runners on base...appeared in 86 games at catcher and 13 at first base...topped SAL catchers with a .996 fielding percentage...tossed out 39-of-154 (25.3%) attempted base stealers...also hit .272 in 26 games at designated hitter...batted fourth a team-leading 98 times...also hit third 23 times and fifth and seventh once each...got off to a slow start, batting .231 in 20 games in April...then collected a season-high three hits May 2 at Rome, his first of 10 three-hit games...belted a grand slam and had a season-high five RBI May 5 against Lexington...that began a streak of eight consecutive games with an RBI (15 RBI total)...had a nine-game hitting streak from May 8 to 17 (12-for-36, .333)...finished May with a .305 batting average and 24 RBI in 26 games...then batted .359 in June...had a season-best 10-game hitting streak from June 12 to 24 (19-for-39, .487) to lift his average to a season-high .318...however, would hit just .251 the rest of the way...reached base safely via hit or walk in 23 consecutive games from July 9 to Aug. 5...hit .254 with .457 on-base percentage during the streak...went 0-for-8 over a four-game span from July 30 to Aug. 3, but walked 11 times...including a season-high four July 31 at Delmarva... finished the season by hitting safely and driving in a run in each of his last five games, going 9-for-23 (.391) with seven runs and seven RBI. 2010 Made his professional debut with Vermont of the Short-Season New York-Penn League, batting .307 with four home runs and 40 RBI in 62 games...tied for third in the NYPL in doubles (19) and ranked fourth in on-base percentage (.408)...was named to the NYPL Midseason All-Star Team... led the Lake Monsters in doubles, RBI, on-base percentage and total bases (98)...hit .377 against left-handed pitching compared to .280 with all four of his home runs against right-handers...batted .373 when leading off an inning...appeared in 35 games at catcher and tossed out 17-of-48 (35.4%) attempted base stealers...also hit .312 in 27 games at designated hitter...saw his most action batting fourth (54 games)...had a 21-game hitting streak from June 27 to July 25, which was the longest hitting streak in the NYPL in 2010...hit .425 (34-for-80) with 10 doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI during the streak... was named NYPL Player of the Week for the week of July 19-25 after going 7-for-20 (.350) with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI in six games...batted .396 in 24 games in July.
