Tommy John surgery for Braves' Rodriguez

When the Braves acquired Paco Rodriguez from the Dodgers on July 30, they hoped his injured left elbow would be healthy enough for him to be a part of their bullpen in September. But it now looks like the left-handed reliever will remain sidelined through the end of the 2016 season.

Resides in Miami, FL…Has a son, Eli…Earned All-Southeastern Conference honors in his junior year at the University of Florida, finishing 3-2 with a 2.18 ERA in 62.0 innings for the Gators…As a sophomore, posted a 4-2 record with a 1.91 ERA (8 ER/37.2 IP) in 32 games...Appeared in both games in the College World Series Championship Finals against South Carolina…Majored in anthropology…Played his high school ball at Gulliver Prep in Miami, FL…Earned First-Team All Florida honors in Class 3A and was named to the All-Area South Florida Team by ESPN Rise Magazine…Participated in the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field in Aug. 2008…Originally selected by Houston in the 48th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign… Signed by Scott Hennessey (Dodgers).

2015

Began the season with Los Angeles (NL) before Atlanta acquired him in a 13-player, three-team deal on July 30. The Dodgers sent Rodriguez, OF Hector Olivera and RHP Zach Bird to the Braves in exchange for INF Jose Peraza, LHP Alex Wood, LHP Luis Avilan, RHP Bronson Arroyo and RHP Jim Johnson. The Braves also acquired a 2016 competitive balance draft pick (No. 35) in the deal from Miami, who sent RHP Mat Latos and INF/OF Michael Morse to Los Angeles for RHP Jeff Brigham, RHP Kevin Guzman and RHP Victor Araujo…Underwent "Tommy John" surgery on September 8 in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure…Made his third consecutive Opening Day roster, compiling a 2.61 ERA (3 ER/10.1 IP) with no decisions in 18 games…Went at least 1.0 inning in five of his 18 appearances…Placed on the 15-day disabled on May 30 with a left elbow strain. Made four rehabilitation appearances across two levels (Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and Triple-A Oklahoma City) before being shut down with elbow pain. Underwent season-ending arthroscopic left elbow surgery on July 2 for loose bodies and osteophyte removal. Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, California performed the procedure.

Tossed scoreless relief in 15 of 19 big league appearances, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA...Had a stretch of nine appearances (May 29-Sept. 26) in which he allowed no runs, two hits and two walks while striking out eight...Made the Dodgers' Opening Day roster and appeared in one game in Australia...had five stints with the Dodgers, including being recalled as the 26th man for the club's May 1 doubleheader at Minnesota...Posted a 2.31 ERA (3 ER/11.2 IP) in 16 appearances against NL clubs, while allowing three runs in 2.1 innings in three Interleague games this year (11.57 ERA)...Stranded all 11 of his inherited runners...Placed on the DL from Aug. 4-Sept. 13 with a Teres Major strain...Went 2-3 with one save and a 4.40 ERA (14ER/28.2 IP) in 32 appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque, recording 35 strikeouts and 17 walks...His 11.0 strikeouts per nine innings led all Albuquerque pitchers

Ranked among the NL's best relievers in ERA (2.32, 12th), opponents' batting average .164 (3rd) and WHIP (0.90, 6th) in his first full MLB season... Inherited a Major League-high 69 runners and allowed only 14 to score (20.3%)…limited opponents to a .138 batting average (11-for-80) with runners on base and held the opposition to a .146 mark (7-for-48) with runners in scoring position... Was especially tough against left-handers, holding them to a .131 batting average (13-for-99), a .218 on-base percentage and a .182 slugging percentage... Did not allow a run in 22 appearances (16.1 IP) between June 7-July 28, allowing just seven hits (7-for-53, .132), striking out 20 and walking only one hitter in that span... Picked up the first win of his career on May 25 with a scoreless 1.0 inning in the Dodgers' 5-3 win over the Cardinals... Notched his first career save on June 25 against the Giants, entering the game with a runner on base and recording the final three outs in the ninth inning to preserve a 6-5 Los Angeles win... Had the third-most appearances of any NL reliever this season with 76... Had 20 holds, which ranked 12th in the NL... Saw his first postseason action and appeared in Games 2 and 3 of the National League Division Series against Atlanta

2012 Became the first member of the 2012 draft class to make his Major League debut after being selected in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida...had his contract selected on Sept. 5 and made his Major League debut on Sept. 9 at San Francisco, forcing an infield groundout by Brandon Belt. Tossed scoreless relief in 10 of 11 big league appearances (1.35 ERA, 1 ER/6.2 IP), while limiting opponents to a .136 batting average (3-for-22) without an extra-base hit. First batters picked up just one hit (1-for-11, .091) with three strikeouts. Allowed just one of 12 inherited runners to score (8.3%). Allowed just one hit with runners in scoring position (1-for-9, 2 strikeouts). With Double-A Chattanooga, limited opposing hitters to a .149 batting average (7-for-47) with 22 strikeouts in 13.2 innings...went 1-0 and picked up three saves in three opportunities. Opened his professional career at Great Lakes, allowing just four hits (4-for-22, .182) and striking out 10 in six scoreless appearances (6.0 IP) to earn a promotion to Double-A Chattanooga on July 28...picked up two saves in as many opportunities.
