Was a prep standout at Lee's Summit West (Mo.) High School...played college baseball at Cowley County Community College (Kan.)...resides in Des Peres, Mo. with his wife Lindsey and their newborn daughter, Chloe Elizabeth (9/13/13).


Served as the team's primary closer in just his 2nd full season in the majors. His 45 saves ranked 2nd in the N.L., 4th in M.L...Became just the 5th pitcher in franchise history to reach the 40-save mark...Struck out 87 batters (6th N.L.) in 70.1 IP (308 TBF) for a 28.2% strikeout/batters faced...Appeared in over 70 games for the second straight season...Ranked 2nd on the team with 72 appearances, T12th N.L. 2012 Had three stints with Major League club, including a final recall on 8/29 where he remained in St. Louis the rest of the season. Made Major League debut at MIL (7/18), throwing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, his first strikeout was of Corey Hart registering third strike at 100 MPH. Averaged 97.4 MPH on his fastball,ranking 5th among all MLB pitchers. Posted scoreless outings in 15-of-19 appearances; struck out 25 batters in 22.2 innings. Had a season high of 3.0 innings in relief at PIT(8/29) allowing one hit with three strikeouts. Suffered first career loss on a 10th-inning walk-off two-run home run to Anthony Rizzo at Chicago (7/29) at Wrigley Field. Finished season with seven scoreless appearances totaling 7.1 innings, and extended it into the playoffs to 16.0 with seven scoreless appearances totaling 8.2 more innings. Held right-handed batters to a .200 BA(9-45) with one home run (2 extra base hits total) and left-handed batters to a .143 BA (5-35) with one home run (only extra base hit). Was a combined 8-6 with a 2.97 ERA in 20 starts between Springfield (AA) and Memphis (AAA), posting 104 strikeouts in 109.0 innings.
