Graduated from Robert A. Millikan High School (Long Beach, CA) in 2009 where he hit .318 with seven home runs, 46 RBI and a .485 on-base percentage in 53 career games...was a 2009 Rawlings First Team All-American and a California All Region First Team selection. Won the Home Run Derby at the 2008 Perfect Game National Showcase at the Metrodome. Was selected by the Phillies in the eighth round of the June 2009 draft...signed by Philadelphia scout Demerius Pittman ... was rated by Baseball America as the No. 6 first base prospect in the 2009 draft class. Represented the Astros in the 2012 All-Star Futures Game and started at first base...went 3x4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Attended MLB's Rookie Development program this offseason along with Max Stassi and Josh Zeid. Was added to the Astros 40-man roster on Oct. 2, 2013...is signed to a one-year contract that runs through the 2014 season ... will be in Major League camp during Spring Training for the first time in his career.

Combined to hit .230 (70x304) with 42 runs scored, 17 doubles, 11 homers, 44 RBI and a .351 OBP in 90 total games with Triple A Oklahoma City (73g), Double A Corpus Christi (11g) and Class A Quad Cities (6g)...began the season with Quad Cities before moving on to Corpus Christi and finally Oklahoma City... homered in his first at-bat of the season...homered in each of his first three games to start the year... among players with 200 plate appearances, was the youngest player in the Triple A Pacific Coast League ... posted a .402 on-base percentage over his last 32 games of the season at Triple A...drew 25 walks as opposed to 28 strikeouts during that span...hit a walk-off double in Oklahoma City's final game of the regular season...in three playoff games with the club, hit .400 (4x10) with a homer and three RBI...played in the Puerto Rican Winter League following the season for the Cangrejeros de Santurce ... led the league in homers (9) and ranked second in slugging (.537) and walks (26), and fourth in extra-base hits (15) and total bases (66) ... added a .268 (33x123) average with six doubles, 17 RBI and a .933 OPS (.396 OBP/.537 SLG)...entered the year ranked by MLB.com as the top first base prospect in baseball and the No. 27 overall prospect in the game ... Spent the entire season at Double A Corpus Christi where he was the third-youngest player in the Texas League...was a Baseball America Minor League All-Star and a Texas League Midseason and Postseason All-Star...hit .284 (131x461) with 21 homers, 79 RBI and a .396 OBP in 131 games...ranked tied for first in the Texas League in runs scored (94), second in walks (88), and fourth in OPS (.893) and extra-base hits (52)...was named the Corpus Christi Hooks MVP and an MiLB.com Organizational All-Star...received Texas League Player of the Week honors for the weeks of May 21-29 and July 2-9...received Hooks Offensive Player of the Month honors in both May and July...ranked by Baseball America as the No. 5 prospect in the Texas League...represented the Astros in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and started at first base...went 3x4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in the game...played in the Arizona Fall League following the season and played in the AFL Rising Stars Game...was named the AFL Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 9-16...hit .226 (21x93) with four doubles, two triples, three homers, eight RBI and a .345 OBP in 25 total games in the AFL...entering the season was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect and 'Best Hitter for Average' in the Astros system.
