Padres left-hander Robbie Erlin is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery next week, according to manager Andy Green. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery in Los Angeles.

Robert (Robbie) Joseph Erlin...graduate of Scotts Valley (CA) High School, where he went 9-1 with a 0.63 ERA his senior season and was named Sentinel All-County Player of the Year...originally committed to play at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo…originally signed by Texas Rangers' scout Butch Metzger.

2015

Spent the majority of the year with Triple-A El Paso where he made 24 starts for the Chihuahuas, going 7-6 with a 5.60 ERA (78 ER, 125.1 IP) before making three starts for San Diego....Started Game Three in the best-of-five Pacific Coast League Pacific Conference Championship series for the Chihuahuas against Fresno (HOU) and extended the series as he earned the win after allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts against one walk over 6.0 innings of work…it was the first playoff win in El Paso franchise history....Made three Major League appearances, all starts, after being recalled from Triple-A on 9/14…made his first start on 9/19 at COL and took the loss after he allowed seven runs on nine hits over 3.0 innings pitched…allowed a combined two runs over his final two starts, going 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA (2 ER, 14.0 IP) and eight strikeouts against one walk....Took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning of his start on 9/26 vs.ARI before allowing a triple to Ender Inciarte with two outs....Became the first left-handed pitcher to start a game for San Diego in 2015 with his start on 9/19 and the first Padre to do so since his last start for the Padres on the final game of the 2014 season, 9/28/14 at SF…the Padres used a right-handed pitcher in each of the first 148 games of the season before his start on 9/19.

Spent the majority of the season with Double-A San Antonio, going 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA (17 ER, 52.1 IP) in just 11 starts for the Missions, missing time due to a stint on the disabled list...Began the season with San Antonio…recorded 72 strikeouts against just 14 walks in his 11 starts for the Missions…averaged 12.4 strikeouts per 9.0 IP while also posting a 5.14 K/BB ratio...Landed on the DL on May 15 with left elbow tendinitis…made three starts for Rookie-Level Peoria on a rehab assignment…reinstated from the DL on August 18...Was 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA (10 ER, 33.2 IP) and 45 strikeouts against just 10 walks over his first seven starts for the Missions before landing on the DL…went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA (7 ER, 18.2 IP) and 27 strikeouts against just four walks over his final four starts of the season for San Antonio after returning from the DL...Named the No. 9 prospect in the Padres' organization by Baseball America heading into the season.
