Info Biográfica de Hak-Ju Lee

Hak-Ju is attempting to become the third Korean-born player to play in the majors for the Rays, joining pitchers Jae Kuk Ryu (2007) and Jae Seo (2006-07)...He also has a chance to become only the third Korean-born position player in major league history...OF Shin-Soo Choo (2005-present) and 1B Hee-Seop Choi (2002-05) are the only two to reach the big leagues thus far...meanwhile, 11 Korean-born pitchers have spent time in the majors...Teammates describe him as possessing advanced karate skills...Is a gifted singer, as evidenced by the YouTube video "Hak-Ju Lee Serenade," filmed in Boise in 2009...also known for his pregame dance ritual in minor league dugouts...Hak-Ju began playing baseball when he was 11 years old...a coach at his school noticed his athleticism on the soccer field and invited him to try his hand on the diamond.

2014

Played 93 games for Triple-A Durham, all at shortstop...had his worst offensive season, posting career lows in batting avg. (.203), OBP (.287) and SLG (.276)...Began the season on the disabled list due to a left calf injury, sustained on March 22 at the Charlotte Sports Complex...reinstated from the DL on April 23-one year and three days since his last minor league game, when he suffered a left knee injury April 20, 2013...the two injuries were unrelated...Ranked 3rd on the Bulls squad with 12 SB...Homered off fellow South Korean Suk-man Loon in his final game of the season on Aug 31, a 9-6 loss to Norfolk (Orioles).

2013

After just 15 games, 14 starts at shortstop for Triple-A Durham, he suffered torn ligaments in his left knee April 20 vs. Norfolk (Orioles) and was lost for the season…collided with Norfolk's Travis Ishikawa at 2B while attempting to turn a double play on a ground ball hit by L.J. Hoes to 2B Tim Beckham... Reached base 30 times in 56 plate apps (.536 on-base pct.) and batted .422 with 6 SB... Underwent surgery on May 13…surgery was performed by Dr. Koco Eaton in St. Petersburg... It was his second consecutive season to end with an injury (oblique strain in 2012)... Has averaged better than a triple every 10 games while in the Rays organization (26 triples, 252 games)... Despite the major injury, he still was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the Rays system after the season, behind Jake Odorizzi…also ranked as the organization's Best Defensive Infielder.

2012 Spent the duration of the season with Double-A Montgomery, where he hit .261 (124-for-475) with four HR, 37 RBI, 10 3B and 37 SB...despite suffering a season-ending oblique strain on Aug. 11, he was named to the Southern League postseason All-Star Team...Stole 37 bases, tied for 4th most in the Southern League, in 46 attempts...ranked second in the Rays organization in steals behind Ryan Brett (48) and was named Best Base Runner in the Rays system by the Baseball Operations staff following the season...Set Biscuits franchise records with a 21-game hitting streak (June 17-July 11) and a 46-game on-base streak (June 13-Aug 3)...the on-base streak broke the previous mark of 37 by Evan Longoria in 2007...during the on-base streak he hit .308 (60-for-195) with a .387 OBP...Recorded 10 triples, tied for 3rd most in the Southern League...Led all Southern League shortstops in fielding pct. (.954)...committed 24 errors in 115 games at shortstop...Batted .278/.360/.405 (85-for-306) vs. righthanded pitchers, compared to .231/.290/.278 against lefties...Played for Phoenix of the Arizona Fall League, appearing in 20 games (16-SS, 4-DH)...started at shortstop for the West team in the AFL Rising Stars Game and went 1-for-3 with an RBI single...Rated by Baseball America as the No. 4 prospect in the Rays organization entering the 2013 season as well as their second-best position player prospect after OF Wil Myers...also rated by the publication as the No. 8 prospect in the Southern League in 2012. 2011 Split the season between Class-A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery, earning a promotion on Aug 11...his 15 triples were 6th among all minor leaguers and the most ever by a Rays farmhand... combined to hit .292 (146-for-500) with 17 2B, 15 3B, 5 HR, 30 RBI and 33 SB...named a midseason and postseason Florida State League All-Star and Charlotte's team MVP...ranked tied for 2nd in the FSL in triples (11), 3rd in avg. (.318), 8th in SB (28) and 9th in OBP (.389)...was named the Most Exciting Player, Best Batting Prospect, Fastest Base Runner and Best Defensive Shortstop in the FSL by BA after the season and the organization's Fastest Base Runner and Best Defensive Infielder by BA entering 2012...started at shortstop in his second straight XM Futures Game in June at Chase Field in Arizona. 2010 Spent the entire season with Class-A Peoria (Cubs)...selected to the Midwest League All-Star Team and the 2010 XM All-Star Futures Game... ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Cubs system by BA entering the 2011 season and the Best Hitter for Average in the system in BA's Best Tools Survey. 2009 Spent the season with Short-A Boise and was named a Topps Short-Season/Rookie All-Star and a Northwest League postseason All-Star...was named the top prospect in the NWL by BA following the season.
