Joshua Alan Rutledge...has one older brother, Michael, who played baseball at Mississippi State (2005- 07) and Samford (2008)...both Josh and his brother won state championships for Cullman (AL) High School, Josh in 2007 and Michael in 2002...hit .445 with 17 home runs and 102 RBI during his junior and senior seasons at Cullman HS...was a two-time All-State selection (2006 and 2007)...played in consecutive Class 5A state championship series (2006 and 2007)...hit .454 with 12 home runs and 69 RBI as a senior...Baseball America rated Rutledge the sixth-best player available for the Draft from the state of Alabama...signed on June 25, 2010 by Rockies Scout Damon Iannelli.


Hit .269 (83/309) with 16 doubles, seven triples, four home runs and 33 RBI in a career-high 105 games with the Rockies...Also set career-highs in hits (83), triples and OBP (.323)...Saw playing time at second base (17 G), third base (5 G) and shortstop (69 G)...From June 1 through the end of the season, was one of four N.L. shortstops (min. 300 PA) to bat .270 with at least 15 doubles (.272/15 2B's)...Posted a .346 clip (44/127) with runners on base, including a .319 (23/72) average with RISP...Began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and hit .333 (18/54) with three doubles, a home run five RBI...Was recalled for the first time April 9, optioned back to Triple-A May 13 and recalled for the final time May 24.

Spent the majority of his time in the Majors playing second base in 2013...played in 58 games, 56 starts, at second...owned a .982 fielding percentage at second...also played 14 games at shortstop.

2012 Was added to the Rockies Major League roster coming out of the All-Star break, as he was selected to the roster straight from Double-A Tulsa.went 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBI, a walk and a stolen base in his first MLB game on 7/13 vs. PHI...Rutledge became the first Rockies player to have a multi-hit game, and have at least 2 RBI in his first MLB game since Jordan Pacheco on 9/6/11...with two hits in his first two MLB PA's, Rutledge became the first Rockies player with a hit in each of his first two MLB plate appearances since since Ben Petrick did so on 9/1/99. Hit .381 (24-for-63) in July and set several records for production in his first two months of the season...struggled down the stretch by batting .197 (26-for-132) with 10 RBI in September/October. Despite his late-season struggles, his 130 total bases after the All-Star break (debuted game after ASB) were the 2ndmost among NL rookies. Had 18 RBI in his first 22 MLB games...Elias: Only other player in Rockies history with at least 18 RBI in his first 22 MLB games was Jeff Baker (20 RBI) from 2005-2006. Became first Rockies rookie with a home run in 4-straight games when he went deep in each game 7/29-8/2...only three other Rockies rookies had a HR in 3-straight games (Wilin Rosario-'12 (twice), Troy Tulowitzki-'07, Jorge Piedra-'05). Set a Rockies record with 64 total bases in first 25 MLB games...also set Rox record with 52 TB in first 18 MLB games. Was a Texas League All-Star in 2012 by hitting .306 (109-for-356) with 27 doubles, 3 triples, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 57 runs in 87 games for Tulsa, his first taste of Double-A. Notched his first career pinch-hit home run on 8/25 at CHC...added his first career grand slam on 9/16 at SD. Despite playing less than half the season (73 games), Rutledge finished in the top-10 of NL rookies in doubles (20, 8th), home runs (8, T-10th), RBI (37, 9th) and extra-base hits (33, T-8th). 2011 Was the everyday shortstop for High-A Modesto, his second stop in his two professional seasons...finished the season with the second-highest batting average on his team, second-highest in the California League and seventh-highest in all of the Minor Leagues...finished third in the CL in on-base percentage and fifth in hits...had the 20th-best OPS in the Minor Leagues (.931)...was named the Rockies organizational Player of the Month in August, the CL Player of the week two times (8/1-7 and 8/29-9/5) and a CL Postseason All-Star...had the Minor League's longest hit-streak of the season, going 27 straight games with a hit, also the second-longest in Nuts history behind Brent Gates who had a 35-game streak in 1992 when Modesto was an Oakland affiliate...over the streak hit .441 (52-for-118) with 20 RBI and 31 runs scored. 2010 Spent his first professional season with Tri-City.
