Full name is Joshua Alan Rutledge. Married his wife, Laura, in December 2013. Signed by Damon Iannelli (Rockies). Attended the University of Alabama...Named to the 2010 All-SEC First Team...Led the Crimson Tide with a .369 AVG in 2008, becoming only the 2nd freshman in school history to lead the team in batting. Graduated from Cullman HS...In 2007, won a state championship and was named Alabama 5A Player of the Year. His older brother, Michael, played baseball at Mississippi State from 2005-07.

2016

In his 1st full season in the Red Sox organization, appeared in only 5 games with Triple-A Pawtucket before being selected to the ML roster on 4/13...Spent the remainder of the season with BOS, but missed the final 3 1/2 months on the disabled list. Made 12 starts for BOS (3B-10, 2B-2), with the Sox going 8-4 in those games. Went 3-for-7 (.429) with 2 2B as a pinch-hitter...Was 12-for-37 (.324) against AL clubs, compared to 1-for-12 (.083) in Interleague play. Posted a .382/.447/.559 batting line in his first 18 games with BOS (13-for-34, 6 2B, 3 RBI, 9 R, 4 BB, 2 SB)...Each of his first 3 hits with the Sox was a double. Recorded his 100th career RBI on 4/18 vs. TOR, giving the Sox a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring double in the 2nd. Went 3-for-4 with a double, 3 runs scored, and a stolen base in the Sox' 10-9 win over HOU on 5/15. Placed on the 15-day disabled list on 6/17 (retroactive to 6/15) with left knee patellar tendinitis...Transferred to the 60-day DL on 7/14. On 8/22, underwent a successful left knee patella tendon debridement and repair...Head Team Orthopedist Dr. Peter Asnis performed the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital...Missed the remainder of the season.

2015

Played 39 games with BOS, posting a career-high .284 AVG (21-for-74) and appearing defensively at 2B (30 games, 18 starts) and 3B (5 games, 1 start)...Also saw action in 81 minor league games in the LAA system prior to joining BOS. Began the season with LAA's Triple-A Salt Lake affiliate, playing 78 games from 4/9-7/26. Missed time on the DL from 6/19-30 with a hip muscle strain...Played 3 games with the AZL Angels on a rehab assignment from 6/26-29, hitting .583 (7-for-12) with 4 XBH and a 1.810 OPS. Hit .360 (31-for-86) with a .523 SLG in 20 July games with the Bees, collecting 9 XBH and 9 RBI. Traded to BOS on 7/27 in exchange for Shane Victorino and cash considerations...Made his Red Sox debut at 3B on 7/29 vs. CWS. Singled for his 1st Red Sox hit on 7/31 vs. TB...On 8/21 vs. KC, hit his 1st HR with BOS. From 8/20-9/5, hit .478 (11-for-23) with a HR and 5 RBI...Hit safely in 7 of those 8 games (sac fly in only PA on 8/28). Designated for assignment on 11/20...Cleared waivers and outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on 11/30.

2014

Hit .269 (83/309) with 16 doubles, seven triples, four home runs and 33 RBI in a career-high 105 games with the Rockies...Also set career-highs in hits (83), triples and OBP (.323)...Saw playing time at second base (17 G), third base (5 G) and shortstop (69 G)...From June 1 through the end of the season, was one of four N.L. shortstops (min. 300 PA) to bat .270 with at least 15 doubles (.272/15 2B's)...Posted a .346 clip (44/127) with runners on base, including a .319 (23/72) average with RISP...Began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and hit .333 (18/54) with three doubles, a home run five RBI...Was recalled for the first time April 9, optioned back to Triple-A May 13 and recalled for the final time May 24.

2013

Began the season on the Rockies Opening Day roster for the first time in his career... was the Rockies starting second baseman to begin 2013...was his first season opening at a position other than shortstop in his professional career... Was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on 5/22, which was his first career assignment at Triple-A...would return to the Rockies 6/14 and be optioned again to Triple-A on 7/21...returned to the Rockies 9/1... Was his most productive following his return to the Majors in September, as he hit .328 (19-for-58) with one double, one triple, on home run and 10 runs scored in 21 games in September... Played in a total of 38 games at Triple-A, batting .371 (53-for-143) with 17 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 24 RBI and 24 runs... Scored 19 runs in 25 games during the month of April...his 19 runs that month were the 9th-most in the NL...had three games with 3 runs scored in 2013, 4/13 at SD, 4/16 vs. NYM, 9/4 vs. LAD... Spent the majority of his time in the Majors playing second base in 2013...played in 58 games, 56 starts, at second...owned a .982 fielding percentage at second...also played 14 games at shortstop.

2012 Was added to the Rockies Major League roster coming out of the All-Star break, as he was selected to the roster straight from Double-A Tulsa.went 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBI, a walk and a stolen base in his first MLB game on 7/13 vs. PHI...Rutledge became the first Rockies player to have a multi-hit game, and have at least 2 RBI in his first MLB game since Jordan Pacheco on 9/6/11...with two hits in his first two MLB PA's, Rutledge became the first Rockies player with a hit in each of his first two MLB plate appearances since since Ben Petrick did so on 9/1/99. Hit .381 (24-for-63) in July and set several records for production in his first two months of the season...struggled down the stretch by batting .197 (26-for-132) with 10 RBI in September/October. Despite his late-season struggles, his 130 total bases after the All-Star break (debuted game after ASB) were the 2ndmost among NL rookies. Had 18 RBI in his first 22 MLB games...Elias: Only other player in Rockies history with at least 18 RBI in his first 22 MLB games was Jeff Baker (20 RBI) from 2005-2006. Became first Rockies rookie with a home run in 4-straight games when he went deep in each game 7/29-8/2...only three other Rockies rookies had a HR in 3-straight games (Wilin Rosario-'12 (twice), Troy Tulowitzki-'07, Jorge Piedra-'05). Set a Rockies record with 64 total bases in first 25 MLB games...also set Rox record with 52 TB in first 18 MLB games. Was a Texas League All-Star in 2012 by hitting .306 (109-for-356) with 27 doubles, 3 triples, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 57 runs in 87 games for Tulsa, his first taste of Double-A. Notched his first career pinch-hit home run on 8/25 at CHC...added his first career grand slam on 9/16 at SD. Despite playing less than half the season (73 games), Rutledge finished in the top-10 of NL rookies in doubles (20, 8th), home runs (8, T-10th), RBI (37, 9th) and extra-base hits (33, T-8th). 2011 Was the everyday shortstop for High-A Modesto, his second stop in his two professional seasons...finished the season with the second-highest batting average on his team, second-highest in the California League and seventh-highest in all of the Minor Leagues...finished third in the CL in on-base percentage and fifth in hits...had the 20th-best OPS in the Minor Leagues (.931)...was named the Rockies organizational Player of the Month in August, the CL Player of the week two times (8/1-7 and 8/29-9/5) and a CL Postseason All-Star...had the Minor League's longest hit-streak of the season, going 27 straight games with a hit, also the second-longest in Nuts history behind Brent Gates who had a 35-game streak in 1992 when Modesto was an Oakland affiliate...over the streak hit .441 (52-for-118) with 20 RBI and 31 runs scored. 2010 Spent his first professional season with Tri-City.
