Cardinals' bullpen gets healthy Maness back

The Cardinals activated relief pitcher Seth Maness from the 15-day disabled list and optioned Dean Kiekhefer to Triple-A Memphis prior to Sunday's series finale with the Rangers.

Cardinals relief pitcher Seth Maness and catcher Brayan Pena are moving ahead in their rehab. Maness has been sidelined by right elbow inflammation, while Pena is working his way back from left knee surgery.

Graduated from Pinecrest (N.C.) High School in 2007...was first team all-state and Mid-Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in baseball as a high school sophomore...earned three letters in baseball and one in basketball and was rated by Impact Baseball as one of the top-40 players in North Carolina...played college baseball at East Carolina University where he earned first team all-Conference USA four consecutive years and Pitcher of the Year in 2010...named Baseball America freshman first team all-American...ranks first all-time at East Carolina in wins (38), strikeouts (334), starts (61), innings pitched (411.2) and hits allowed (429)...pitched 10.0 innings vs. Rutgers (3/18/11), T2nd longest by a Conference USA pitcher...graduated with a degree in accounting in May 2011...name is pronounced MAY-niss...resides in West End, N.C.

Played at three different levels beginning at Batavia (SS), before finishing the season with three relief apperances at Advanced-A Palm Beach and two appearances at Class-A Quad Cities...made 10 appearances with seven starts at Batavia; had three quality starts and was 0-1 with an 0.79 ERA in his starts... made three playoff appearances going 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in 6.0 IP, helping Quad Cities to the Midwest
League Championship .
