Andrew Steven Werner…was originally signed by San Diego Padres scouts Randy Smith and Randy Johnson…graduated from Washington Community High School in Illinois…attended Illinois Central for two years…compiled a 3.58 ERA in 45 innings as a freshman en route to All-Region XXIV honors… also attended the University of Indianapolis for two years.


Spent the entire season at Triple-A Sacramento in his first year in the A's organization and went 12-14 with a 5.78 ERA in 27 games, including 26 starts…had minor league career highs in nearly every category including wins, starts, innings pitched (165.0) and strikeouts (111)…led the Pacific Coast League in runs (110) and earned runs (106), ranked second in innings pitched, losses and hits (202), tied for second in wins and tied for fourth in home runs allowed (20)…had the second highest ERA and fourth highest opponents batting average (.305) among qualifiers…the earned runs were the most among all minor league pitchers and he also ranked second in most hits and runs and tied for sixth in most losses… tied for second in the A's farm system in wins, ranked third in innings and seventh in strikeouts…led the River Cats in innings, losses, hits, runs, earned runs and hit batters (9) and tied for the team-lead in games started and home runs…his opponents batting average included a mark of .279 (63-for-226) against left-handed hitters compared to .319 (139-for-436) against right-handers…surrendered 18 of his 20 home runs to righties for a .534 slugging percentage…lefties slugged .376…opponents hit .345 with runners in scoring position and were 6-for-7 (.857) with four doubles with the bases loaded…was 7-12 with a 6.53 ERA and .323 opponents batting average in 20 games, 19 starts, before the All-Star Break…then went 5-2 with a 3.71 ERA and .251 opponents average in seven starts after the break… logged a 6.44 ERA over the first four innings of a game but had a 3.03 ERA from the fifth inning on… was 7-5 with a 4.55 ERA and .274 opponents batting average in 13 games at home compared to 5-9 with a 7.02 ERA and .333 opponents batting average in 14 starts on the road…did not commit an error in 33 chances…did not have a no decision in any of his 26 starts…tossed six or more innings 20 times, allowed two runs or fewer 10 times and walked two batters or fewer 23 times.

McCutchen to end the first inning for his first strikeout...singled in the seventh inning off Joe Blanton Sept. 3 at Los Angeles (NL) for his first big league hit...struck out a career-high eight in that game...his second win came in his fourth start Sept. 9 against Arizona when he surrendered a season-low one run in 6.1 innings...became the first pitcher in San Diego history to begin his career by tossing six or more innings while allowing two runs or fewer in each of his first four career starts... then allowed five runs in back-to-back starts Sept. 16 against Colorado and Sept. 22 at San Francisco... yielded a season-high six runs in a season-low 2.2 innings in his final start Oct. 3 at Milwaukee. 2011 Split his first season in the San Diego organization between the Padres two Single-A affiliates at Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore...was 7-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 25 starts with the two clubs...struck out 107 and walked just 26 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.12...ranked fourth in the San Diego farm system in ERA...allowed a .266 opponents batting average, including .207 against left-handed hitters compared to .288 against right-handers...leadoff hitters batted .203 with a .255 on-base percentage... yielded a .352 average with runners in scoring position with Fort Wayne but that mark dropped to .250 at Lake Elsinore...his teams were 15-10 (.600) in his starting assignments...tossed six or more innings in 12 of his 25 starts, allowed two runs or fewer 14 times and walked two batters or fewer 22 times...began the season at Fort Wayne where he went 2-6 with a 3.44 ERA in 12 starts...tossed 6.0 shutout innings and allowed just one hit in his first start April 12 against Bowling Green for the win...then went 0-5 with a 4.40 ERA over his next eight starts from April 18 to May 30...walked a season-high three batters April 30 at Dayton...tossed a season-high 7.0 innings May 10 against Bowling Green...allowed a season-high 12 hits in 6.0 innings May 30 against Great Lakes...snapped his losing streak June 11 when he allowed one run in a season-high tying 7.0 innings June 12 at Wisconsin...allowed a season-high six runs in his final start with the Tin Caps June 17 at Great Lakes...was transferred to Lake Elsinore June 23 and went 5-2 with a 3.03 ERA in 13 starts with the Storm...tossed 6.0 shutout innings and struck out a season-high 10 in his first start June 25 at Inland Empire...allowed one run or fewer in each of his first three starts... went 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA over his first six starts...the winning streak was snapped July 27 against Rancho Cucamonga when he allowed a season-high tying six runs...then won each of his next two starts, allowing just one run in 5.0 innings...went 0-2 with a 2.50 ERA (18.0 ip, 15 h, 7 r, 5 er, 10 bb, 14 so) in three postseason starts for Lake Elsinore as the Storm won the California League Championship. 2010 Returned to the Frontier League for the second consecutive season...combined for an 11-5 record and a 3.35 ERA in 19 starts for Evansville and Windy City...allowed just five home runs in 118.1 innings, an average of 0.38 per nine innings...ranked second in the FL in wins and seventh in strikeouts (97). 2009 Pitched for Evansville in the independent Frontier League, going 3-2 with a 5.46 ERA in 10 games, four starts, in his professional debut...struck out 41 batters in 29.2 innings,
