Roenis Leliebre Elias…resides in Austin, Texas…defected from Cuba to Mexico in late 2010 after playing for Guantanamo in Serie Nacional.

Went 10-12, 3.85 ERA(70 ER, 163.2 IP) in 29 starts during his rookie season... Shut down for the season after leaving start Sept. 16 at LAA witha strained flexor bundle in his left elbow... Became seventh rookie pitcher in club history to record 10-plus wins in a season, first since John Halama (11) and Freddy Garcia (17) in 1999... Among Mariners rookie pitchers all-time,ranked fourth in strikeouts (143), sixth in starts (29), seventh in wins (10), eighth in innings (163.2)... One of seven MLB rookies to record 10 or more wins in 2014…also ranked among AL rookie leaders in starts, innings and strikeouts... Posted a 2.31 ERA (3-4 record) in 10 starts following the All-Star break…was 7-8, 4.54 ERA in 19 starts before the break... Struck out career-high 10 batters May 1 at New York (AL)…becamethe 2nd opposing rookie pitcher to strike out 10 or more in his Yankee Stadium debut inthe past 45 seasons (also: Matt Moore, 9/22/11, 11 K)... Tossed 3-hit shutout June 1 vs. Detroit…first Mariners rookie pitcher to throw a shutout since Freddy Garcia on Aug. 24, 1999 vs. Detroit... Led High Desert in wins…only the 4th pitcher in franchise history to start at least 25 games and have an ERA under 4.00 in a single season; joins John Patterson (2.83) and Brad Penny (2.96) in 1998 and Luis Galindez (3.87) in 1992…his 11 wins rank T8th in a single season by a Mavericks pitcher…led the team with 12 quality starts including 6 of his final 8 starts of the season; during this 8-game stretch, from July 16-Aug. 31, went 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA (13 ER, 50.0 IP)…recorded his first career double digit strikeout game with a career-high 11 K's in 7.2 innings on July 21 at Stockton (7.2,6,3,3,1,11,HR).
