It's official: Michael Brantley is on the Indians' Opening Day roster. After a long comeback from multiple surgeries on his right arm, Cleveland's star left fielder was a part of the active roster the team unveiled on Sunday morning.

Tribe adds Mejia to 40-man, claims 2 off waivers

The Indians have a fair share of decisions to make on their Major League roster as they prepare to defend their American League pennant. Before that, they made some key decisions Friday, adding slick-hitting catcher Francisco Mejia to their 40-man roster while claiming left-handed pitchers Edwin Escobar and Tim Cooney off waivers.

Full name TIMOTHY MANUS COONEY...Single...Played college baseball at Wake Forest University...Earned 2nd team All-ACC honors his sophomore season (2011), the first Demon Deacon since 2007 to win all-conference honors...Threetime ACC Pitcher of the Week...Played high school baseball at Malvern Prep (Pa.) compiling a 25-6 record in his career... Helped the school to a PIAA State Championship in 2009 and a 40-3 record and National Ranking in 2008...Favorite team growing up was the Philadelphia Phillies, favorite player: Cole Hamels...Enjoys golfing and reading.

Did not pitch in 2016 due to July right shoulder surgery after dealing with shoulder discomfort beginning in spring training...Issue causing him discomfort was a Bennett lesion (bone spur) in the shoulder joint...The Malvern, PA native pitched in the Cardinals system for four seasons since 2012, posting a Minor League mark of 33-26 with a 3.35 ERA in 79 games/76 starts (456.2IP, 445H, 170ER, 93BB, 373SO)...Cooney made 6 starts for the St. Louis Cardinals in April and July of 2015, going 1-0 with a 3.16 ERA (31.1IP, 28H, 11ER, 10BB, 29SO).

Made his Major League debut in a season in which he pitched mostly at Triple-A Memphis…Named to the Pacific Coast League All Star team, but was unable to participate due to his promotion to the majors…Began the season at Memphis and was purchased on 4/30, making his Major League debut vs. PHI. Threw 2.1 innings and allowed three runs in the start. Optioned the next day (5/1)…Recalled two additional times to St. Louis: on 7/2 starting vs. SD and optioned the next day, and 7/5 when he made four additional starts before an option on 7/25…Earned his first Major League win in his last start at St. Louis, 7/24 vs. ATL.
