Injury updates

On the back fields at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex, shortstop JT Riddle played three innings in the infield. Riddle had been hitting in Minor League games, but Saturday was the first time he was cleared to play the field since having left shoulder surgery last August.

Wei-Yin Chen (way-in)...married to Yi-Wen Tsai (eee-wen sigh)...couple has two sons, Karston and Kyle.


In sophomore season with Miami, limited to just five starts and nine total appearances after missing majority of season with left arm fatigue. Finished with 2-1 record and 3.82 ERA (33.0 ip/14 er)... Opened season on 25-man roster, but made just five starts before beginning DL stint on May 5. Reinstated on September 4, after which he made just four relief appearances before being shut down with left elbow discomfort following outing on Sept. 22... Best start of the year came on April 18 at Seattle, holding Mariners hitless over 7.0 innings while striking out two and issuing just two walks. Marked first start of career holding an opponent hitless. Previous low-hit start was one, done on June 2, 2016 vs. Pittsburgh (6.0 ip)... Allowed season-high tying seven hits, with four runs and two walks, along with three strikeouts, over 5.0 innings on April 26 at Philadelphia. Loss marked first and only defeat of season... Recorded season-high seven strikeouts in final start, on May 1 vs. Tampa Bay. Did not receive a decision despite allowing just two runs and two hits over 6.0. Also walked a season-high four... Had the most wins (16) and lowest ERA (3.54) of his three-year career. His 16 wins were most by an Oriole left-hander since Jeff Ballard won 18 games in 1989. Ended 2014 with 35 career wins, the second-most by a Taiwanese born pitcher in big league history behind Chien-Ming Wang (62). Walked 35 in 185.2IP, the fewest walks for an O's pitcher with at least 175.0 IP in a single season in club history. Ranked third in BB/9 in club history (1.70) in a single season and ranked fifth in the AL this season. Posted a career-high five game winning streak, July 3-August 1 Threw his 500th career inning, September 15 vs. Toronto, the second lefty in club history to do it within his first three seasons withthe club (Steve Barber, 1960-62).
